As the ignition switch on my boat is located on the sloping angle of my central console, water would frequently accumulate inside it as a result of rain and other moisture, for which the internal contacts corroded. After applying WD40 and working the switch, the problem would resolve itself, but return within a few hours. Earlier this year, a new switch of this type was installed. Thanks to this boot nut, I was able to solve my problem!.
In order to replace the boot, I simply removed the worn out boot (with the key slot) and inserted the new one. I did not remove the original and replace it in its entirety. Everything went according to plan!.
We didn't use due to the coarse threads we had. The part I was looking for is fine. I should have done some research before ordering. The price was very reasonable, so I will keep it.
If it fits your ignition, the Face and Boot Nut for Marine Ignition Switch from SIERRA Marine is a good boot cover. My ignition does not have the same thread as the Yamaha. I had to order a new one. It was really necessary to replace the part, so I purchased it in the hope that There was a problem with it. There was a $10 charge for this product. It sold for $94 when I purchased it, but now that I have seen what it includes, I think the price was a good one. Initially, I assumed it was just the rubber boot, but it is the whole cover with the boot, as well. Although I plan to use it eventually, I'm still searching for it at this point.
The ignition switch was for a marine vessel. 7/8 inches was the nominal size of the switch. It turns out that only the rubber seal had failed, but both the seal and nut will have to be replaced. I wasn't able to get the part from the local national marine store. They wanted me to buy the whole switch, by the way. I'd like to thank Amazon for this.
In my boat, I have an ignition that is better suited to weather.
An easy garment to wear.
