To remove the original button I used a small paper clip with the end bent to 90 degrees at 1/8 inch, inserted in a slot in the bottom of the old cover, then inserted the new button and pressed it into place. Done, done, done!

My old one was just popped out with a small flat head screw driver by prying from the side, and the new one slid right in. I also found it to be a perfect match and it works very well. The X5 E70 is the model I have.
It took some time, but the old worn out one looked like a white blob carefully popped out of the way, and the new one just pushed right in. Easy to install in one minute. It looks to be OEM, as you can see in the photos.
