The voltage regulator seems to be undergoing some problems. The alternator does not have to be removed in order to install these. Having used these brush sets on Mercedes, Volvos, and even my BMW K75, I can say they work great. Running non-stop is never a good idea Companies that regulate on their own brands. A number of intermittent electrical issues like a fuel quantity needle that jumps around led me to replace the voltage regulator. You can see in the photos how worn out the old regulator brushes are. Please take note It was not necessary to remove the alternator to change the regulator, but I had to disconnect the negative battery cable as standard procedure. The brush was then compressed with zip ties (see photo) and then the regulator was installed. As soon as the installation was complete, I cut the zip tie, carefully pulling it out.
Replacing yours is a good idea! The 300e I own dates back to 1991. It is common for these cars to have trouble with this component. For the sake of caution, I replaced the text.
