Yes, there are instructions included.

Is this compatible with a 1991 GMC K 1500?

Yes, it will work for your truck if it was retrofitted with a newer CD130D alternator. Those trucks came equipped with a CS130 alternator, which uses a different plug than this one.

Is it possible to use this plug without a regulator control box to power a secondary alternator?

Yes, a switched ignition 12v source is all that is required.

Is the pink wire the exciter wire or the ground wire on the two wires? Is it possible to install a new wiring harness that is completely painless?

There is no ground wire, so both wires (brown and pink/black) must be connected to a 12v accessory switch. In our chassis harnesses, this will be 914, which is a source powered by the accessory side of the ignition switch. Ignition run on will occur if the source is not the Accessory side of the ignition switch. The brown wire on this pigtail must also have the supplied resistor installed or be connected to a charge indicator, or the regulator inside the alternator will be burned out. This was exactly what I was looking for. After a series of alternator failures, I decided to bypass all of the existing wiring, and this was exactly what I needed. The alternator receives the power it requires, and there are no more failures.

I was able to re-charge my Chevrolet

With the simple instructions that came with it, I was able to charge my Silverado 2500HD without using the computer because it was not sending a signal. This solved my problem, and even though the battery charge light is still on, it is charging.

The resistor and the plug I was in desperate need of a plug

The voltage on the resistor did not drop. Soldering was completed, and the voltage drop was measured at 12 volts. 2v. Cut the wire, flipped it over, resoldered it, and measured the voltage drop, which was 12. 2v. I had to go out and buy more resistors.
