The positive terminal is on the left side of the horn when viewed from behind.
I installed them in a 1990 Toyota Landcruiser using the factory horn wiring. You may need to make some modifications, but I wired them up and bolted them to the grill frame. They perform admirably, and their value is unrivaled. Have fun!

but that's the point. I installed them on my Prius today (no relay was required). I put them to the test in a backyard (where stray cats felt compelled to urinate) and then went about my business. After a few hours, I was stuck on a one-lane one-way street because some idiot was trying to walk in the opposite direction on the sidewalk. Then he made a left turn, honking his horn and yelling at me to yield. He eventually got tired of punching his steering wheel and rolled down the window to engage in a lively conversation with me. . . then I honked. He jumped and collided with his head, instantly forgetting what he was going to say. 1: HELLA vs. road rager I'm still laughing a little bit: )br>br>A couple of words on the sound itself. This isn't a "big rig sound"; for that, you'll need a pneumatic horn. In no way, shape, or form is it a pleasant sound. It sounds like seven trumpets are being played at the same time, so be careful – if you play the horn for long enough, the dead may awaken. br>br>In a nutshell, it's obnoxiously loud screeching that's impossible to ignore, willingly or unwillingly.
Over the years, I've put Hella Supertone horns on a number of vehicles. After only a few months of use, the set I bought on Amazon for "a great price" broke down. I only recently had the opportunity to remove the bumper from the car again in order to diagnose the horns. They only gave a brief squeal and nothing more when I connected them to one of my other cars, which also has Hella horns that work perfectly. I can only conclude that this is a non-genuine product. br>br>I see that Hella provides a 12-month warranty with a broad stroke elimination clause that they must be installed by a "professional. " I'm a car collector who would never allow a "pro" to touch one of my vehicles. However, it appears that Hella will dismiss me as unfit for the job. horns. br>br>So, even if these are genuine, they're clearly ill-advised based on that. I'm not going to waste my time with Hella for replacement because they have a willed clause that prevents them from standing by their product.
This is the third set of Hella Supertone horns I've purchased. The first two were purchased to improve the sound of a Mercedes and a Land Rover many years ago. They were designed and manufactured in Germany. This set was designed and manufactured in India. Buying horns based on an expectation of a specific sound or tone is actually quite difficult, unless you buy factory replacement horns for a vehicle whose horn sound you like. I like the sound of the Supertones, but I knew that before I bought them. They sound exactly like Mercedes Benz horns from the 1970s - the early twenty-first century If you like that type of music, you'll love these. Some people might find the sound shrill. There's no doubt about it: It's impossible to ignore a prolonged blast. You are going to be noticed. You will be heard. br>br>Because these horns are directional, it is best to direct them forward if at all possible. Only a similar style horn can be used with the enclosed mounting "bracket. " Please keep in mind that to properly mount the horns, you may need to make a custom bracket. This was exactly what I required. Also, keep in mind that these horns are quite large and may not fit in the original horn's location. For ease of installation, I prefer the slightly smaller 4 inch horn. These were put in a 2007 Ford Escape. br>br> To get to the original horn, I had to take off the inside front fender liners as well as the front bumper cover. It took over 4 hours to disassemble and reassemble, plus another few hours to fabricate mounts and install all wiring to and from the horns and relay. It was well worth it, but it was a full day's work. Make the necessary adjustments to your schedule. br>br>It's important to note that you'll either need to use the included relay or make sure your car has a dedicated 15 amp circuit for the original horn. The vast majority of people will refuse. If the horn is not wired properly, the volume will be reduced. This voltage drop is responsible for some of the product's negative reviews, and the instructions are only clear if you're used to reading electrical diagrams. They stink in any case. The relay that comes with these horns is of extremely low quality. Although the connections are made with spade terminals, the relay is so flimsy that it broke when the connector was slid on. I called Hella Corporate and got on the phone with someone who refused to send me a replacement relay after two disconnects. This item will be returned to Amazon. I would have been satisfied if Hella had simply replaced the faulty component. Hella has lost me as a customer for good.
Update November, 2019br>br>It's been almost three years since my installation, and they still look and work the same way they did the first week. This installation has saved me from at least two accidents. You'll have something that makes a sound that demands attention if you do the installation correctly (with relay and directly off battery terminal connection). br>br>I've had far too many close calls in parking lots due to people who are too preoccupied with their children, phones, or general inattention. People in crosswalks, jaywalkers, and obnoxious bicyclists who insist on sharing the road with me while disobeying vehicular laws are all characterized in the same way. People, I swear, don't love or cherish their lives, or so I'm told when they walk in front of me without looking up. br>br>With my occasionally necessary and judicious use of the horn, my previous horn had a friendly, almost Road Runner "meep meep" to it, and hardly presents a consequence. Something has to change, and the addition of these Hella Supertones is that something. br>br>When the horn was tested, it was quite loud. It wasn't a ringing in the ears situation. I expected it to be a splitting, pinpoint noise source. Instead, a full-frontal assault from a source the size of the car's cross section is unleashed. It appears to be more "pants soiling inducing" than "ear bleed inducing. ". . . . . . This will suit my needs perfectly. br>br>Images from the Saturn Astra H installation in 2008.
