Questions & Answers

What is the possibility of using this with a 2002 Ford escort ZX2?

It is not something I know. I apologize. 98 Mustang is the car I drive.

What are the chances that these would work on a 1993 Thunderbird?

It's not clear whether just looking up the YouTube 1993 Thunderbird odometer trip setter will work. I would check YouTube first since it seems like it might be the same gear.

Can this be applied to a 1998 SVT Cobra?

As long as you have the standard dash components, it should work.

Odometers for 1997 Ford F150 Lariats are compatible with the Worm Gear only
5/5

I have a 1997 Ford F150 with a broken odometer and trip meter. When I removed the instrument cluster, I found the worm gear that drives the odometer & the speedometer There was no way to read the trip meter numbers The photo can be viewed here. I took a chance on this MTC gear set because it was specified for a 1997 Mustang but I didn't know if the 1997 F150 would fit. My research has shown that the price of a single worm gear for a F150 is greater than that of a set of gears for a Mustang. Since there are several YouTube videos explaining how to remove the instrument cluster, I will not go into detail about how to do it. By removing this switch, one of several bolts holding the main trim panel from around the instrument cluster can be accessed. Here is what I explain at the end of my I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the gear driven by the worm gear was in good working order. I was not told that if the gear I ordered from Amazon broke too, the second gear, that came with my order, would not have been a replacement. The photo can be viewed here. In order to remove the motor from its plastic housing, you have to turn it clockwise. My motor wouldn't come out the first time I tried. For removal of the motor, I sliced off a small, round portion of one of the two plastic locking posts using a small cutter wheel on a Dremel tool, as pictured in one of the attached photos. It would not slip on to the motor shaft when I attempted to put the new worm gear Despite the large hole in the gear, it was a bit In order to do this, I used a micro-drill Use a drill bit to slightly enlarge the hole about 1/4 of the way into the gear, making sure that the gear fits tightly on the shaft after drilling. In the attached PHOTO you can see the worm gear once it is attached to the motor shaft. I left space between the gear and motor shaft so there would not be In order to reattach the motor to the instrument cluster and reassemble the cluster, I installed the new worm gear into the dash's primary drive gear teeth, and then I verified the mesh between the new gear and the drive blades. We took the truck for a test drive and found that the trip meter and odometer I'd like to cheer loudly! According to the YouTube videos I watched, removing the instrument cluster from my 1997 Ford F150 requires a special procedure that I have not been able to determine from the YouTube videos I watched. Watch these videos to see people using a screwdriver to remove headlight switches from various late-model cars, including In the model F150s, one of the bolts holding the main trim panel over the instrument cluster needs to be removed. Using a screwdriver would have most likely damaged the switch or marred the trim on that side because it is held in place NOT with clips but with a locking pawl stuck out of one of the sides and it is impossible to reach that locking mechanism using a screwdriver. The boy I have is 2 years old The Ford Service Manuals I have for my truck are in two volumes. The following is found on page 417 As described in page 98 of Volume 2, to retract the locking pawl, and to remove the headlight switch, we must follow these steps This includes 1. The headlight knob should be turned to the FOG Please note 2. When you turn on the fog lights, you pull out the knob to turn them on. 1. *br 3. An arrow goes through the hole at the bottom of the knob. Maintain a light pull at all times Put pressure on the knob, and insert a thin tool into that hole
to force a locking tang in. A piece of coat hanger wire was what I used in my case. See the attached photo for more details. Several changes have been made to the switch knob so that it can now 2. *3. *4. The knob should be turned 180° and then repositioned so that it is backwards on the shaft. This paragraph

5. By counterclockwise turning the knob the back of the knob will be at an The locking mechanism is engaged when this button is pressed. After you turn the knob clockwise to FOG, you can turn the knob back. As a result, the locking pawl can now be retracted, and the switch assembly can now be removed from the dashboard, so the 3 connectors can be removed. The photo can be viewed here. The locking pawl will be extended when you rotate the reversed knob to the OFF position when you reinstall the switch in the dash. Reinstall the knob on the shaft by pulling it out, rotating it 180 degrees, and reattaching it. Once the knob is locked back in place, you need to turn it back and forth a few times.

This is what I wrote down as I went along I was very happy with how the product performed The program performed as it was After installing the new gears and changing all the dash bulbs, it took me about an hour and a half to complete the task

In the following I have presented a few notes from youtube videos that I watched to remind me of what to do when replacing This is just my handwriting and could be wrong, so please take it with a grain of salt. Assume that you already know what you are doing, and that you just need a basic checklist to remind yourself of what to do. My notes below should be used at your own risk, so please follow at your own risk. ****

1998 1. Breathe in deeply and then breathe out fully. The screws are T20 torx and are located on top of the The second step entails the following A flat blade in a small size You will see a release button when you rotate the head light knob. To release the driver, push it into the release / pull it toward the 3 Make sure you speak correctly about the topic. You can remove the black bezel by unscrewing it. Working from the bottom up is a good idea. Step 4 Select the category you want from the selection menu. The T20 deadline is February 20 To remove the dash, you must remove 4 of the BLACK screws - do not drop them! The following steps are part of Step You may slide the instrument panel from the dash, but do not pull hard on the wires connected to it. The following are the steps in Step Six The connectors should be released at the center top of each - from a single tab. *** NOTE There were a lot of tight spaces on the white connector Step 7 Use the bench exclusively

Move to the bench

The T-15 torx or the 5 hex are both equivalent. The clear cover needs to be removed by a 5mm socket. The screw has eight threads. This is the eighth step Removing the clear glass in the following steps Under the speedometer, there is a 5. This is what Step 10 is about Using a flat blade screwdriver, pry up under the oil soaked (not paper soaked) PASTIC. In step 11, you are supposed to The screwdriver blade must be flat in order to pry up the sticker (not the paper). Step 12 Holding the tack and the speedometer with two hands, lift them up. Step Keep stop pins in place, do not break them. The speedo / Tack is flipped over at step 14. The two blue tabs holding the motor should be twisted a little as you lift them. You must pop off the worm gear to complete step 15. We will pop out the driver gear and clean the broken pieces of the old gear. )*NOTE Worm gear may require some effort. Please make sure that you push firmly into the other gear after putting it in. In order to push the nut into the hole, I used a small screwdriver. In Step 19 of the process, the motor is replaced. You can use *. br>*. br> to install the other packages. The following information is included as an extra Remember to NOT put much pressure on the gauges when reinstalling them. . . they should just fall in easily. I glued a tire value cover in place of the broken stop pin because I broke it off. Although it looked bad on the bench, it was hard to notice in the car once it was back in.

I should replace all the dash lights at the same time.

I've got both my speedometer and my odometer At the same time as I changed the speed sensor, I replaced the odometer gears with these also just to be on the safe side
5/5

I watched a couple of YouTube videos and my gauges are now working properly again after a couple hours. I decided to replace my gears because they looked okay, but I still found some chipped teeth, so I went ahead and backed them anyway because they appear to be better quality than the originals which basically fell apart when If you are removing your instrument cluster, you should be careful because I broke my speedo The super glue was able to hold it back on, but I dislike the fact that it's glued in.

Resulted in success! I was pleased with the replacement shipment except for the first shipment that never arrived
5/5

It arrived quickly and worked correctly in my 98 GT. It was pretty simple and quick to do this myself, and I saved a lot I thought you might find the following note useful In the case where the speedometer is also out of commission, this part will not solve When you have a broken trip meter or a malfunctioning odometer (as in my case) then the most likely (and cheapest) part to replace is this. Your old part will be in pieces when it breaks because it is out of the plastic. In the event that this replacement part fails (before another 17 years have passed) then this review will be updated.

A 1997 F150 worm gear will fit
5/5

We wish you good luck attempting to work more deeply on the cog wheel than the work gear. It would be nice if you were as lucky as I was and didn't need more than I was able to disintegrate the old one with little pressure and it fell out like cheap rubber. It took a long time to get to the wheel (harder plastic), as way too much had to be removed. It has been a successful mission!.
