My cluster was fitted with replacement gauges for the ones on my C5. Even though I had difficulty removing the old ones, the new ones were relatively easy to mount and solder into place once they were removed. Keep a mindful eye on the surface of the solder so you don't get it.
We were very pleased with the performance of the stepper motors. Those were the tires I used in my 2003 Silverado Soldering is something that I have a lot of experience doing, so I felt it was quite I would not call it "easy" for a beginner but if you have patience, it should be possible for anyone. Cleaning is critical (use 95% alcohol when soldering), using solder flux to transfer heat and limiting the time you spend with heat on the board are crucial. Be patient in general.
