Questions & Answers

In what distance should the O2 sensor be situated from the exhaust manifold (or close to it)?

Installing it right after where all the exhaust runners merge into one pipe or in the down pipe right after the exhaust manifold would be my preferred solution. There is an inverse relationship between sensor accuracy and proximity to the manifold, but the closer the sensor is to the manifold, the more heat it is exposed to, thus lowering sensor life (though not drastically).

Do you think this works in a ?

It is a poor choice for the O2 sensor to be located there. The exhaust manifold would usually be located roughly 18 inches away from them. It may be necessary to change the details of your application depending on your location, the number of cats, whether you have a precat, and other factors.

The generic sensor that came with it worked for almost 45 minutes after I ordered it, but it didn't ship with a Bosch sensor. What does the seller have to do with ?

It's a great question, these things usually go down for no reason. Mine took two days to fix each time. Buying four of them before finding one that worked took a lot of effort. Since I'd already sent them back in the previous boxes, I decided to send them back in that box instead. I have one that has been in there for about 3,000 miles now. The system is working fine so far.

Can this be used on a diesel engine?

The product has yet to be tried by me. It is mentioned in the unit's instructions that it can be used with gasoline, diesel, alcohol, and more while choosing different settings for each type. The instructions are fairly good, and I found it to be an easy process. While the wire used to hook it up is quite long and may be capable of working with conventional cabs, it might be a bit short for tip cabs.

A failure that arises from the box
3/5

This product isn't a member of AEM's line of products and they will not replace it. I bought it in March anticipating needing it to put A couple weeks ago, when I got to this part of the build, I installed it. A defect was present right after the box was opened. My suspicion is that the sensor is the problem. My message to AEM was answered by the rep who was certain it was the gauge/controller so he warrantied it. After receiving the warranty covered item last night, I noticed that the setup was still defective. This looks still like a sensor, but the vendor refuses to engage in any conversation about it. Having bought this item based on the expectation that I would need it later, I did not have time to return it to Amazon. It is not acceptable for AEM to send a replacement sensor if a sensor is defective out of the box as they will not cover items damaged by wearing. You can even take it It costs upwards of 100 dollars to replace a sensor. The whole process has been very frustrating to me and I have wasted two important weeks dealing with a customer service representative who is unwilling to resolve the problem. In an updated statement, they pledged to guarantee the whole kit after much effort. Since this was a one star review, I am giving it a one star because it was a one-star review out of the box, I wasted almost 3 weeks, and I had to fight to get the product to work properly. Due to my lack of ability to tune my car in time, I'm likely to miss the biggest event of the season.

As a result, the only option I have is to uninstall the AEM software and send it in for We are not cool and we are A 10 degree angle is drilled into the bung to ensure proper installation. As soon as I start, I am given After a start of 8, it gradually rises up to 20 and then drops to dashed lines for the rest of the run. Dyno confirmed AFR, so I know it's not because it's It seems to be a fairly common occurrence that these sensors are defective right out of the box. After the fact, you can read a lot more comments on here.

The box has failed out of the My low car is hard to lift high enough to reach the O2 sensor, so I enjoy not having to spend 20 minutes getting it raised in an attempt to replace it only for it to fail right It is a shame that this rubbish product will not let me tune in my tune
3/5

The fact that I have ordered two of these and a third is on its way irritates me. I will be removing Aem from my build if the third one does not read. There is a possibility that it is just Amazon's AEM There is no indication that it is a Bosch sensor. The gauge, however, does not appear to be a fake. Although I don't know, I would likely stay away from this brand and use a different one.

It was a waste of money because the sensor was defective
3/5

My experience with aem was that when I read that they are the best I went with them. I received my afr gauge and installed it professionally, only to discover that my O2 sensor is defective, and now I am forced to return my entire gauge to receive a refund. Simply putting in properly costs more than the gauge does, even without any additional time or labor costs. Let someone else do the work for you and save you money. There are two innovate gauges in my collection and they are It is absurd that I now have to purchase another sensor in order to avoid having to replace the entire gauge.

At the time of arrival, the sensor was dead
4/5

It ran, but I knew my tune was rich, so I sent it in, and after rewiring the power and ground my car kept creeping to full lean. That's when I sent it to AEM. They were very friendly and responded within a matter of hours. If you decide to throw the stock sensor away and just get a replacement, you'll save so much time. Other than that, I'm really looking forward to tuning my car again. However, only four out of five stars due to the poor.

I love the wideband, the gauge is great, and it's simple to This product is both an outstanding bargain and an outstanding performer
5/5

When you compare what you got for your money 15-dollars to this much value for 150 dollars, you are blown away. The year was 1992. There was no gauge in those days on top of paying a lot more and you had to install a complicated device. As well as being easy to read, you can expect the gauge to respond quickly and look terrific. I don't understand why people complain about distracting flashing lights when the light doesn't flicker or anything like that. Until you glance over at the windshield pillar, the brightness appears to be just right and doesn't even register unless you are in a bright environment. It might be related to the mounting of the gauge cluster or to the internal LED lighting. I have no idea. Everyone has a different car. Even in bright sunlight with the top down, I had no problems in my NA miata. Although firewall routing was a major issue during installation, installation was straightforward and easy. Installing this in less than five minutes, assuming you have a clear passage through your firewall and 12 volt, ground, and signal wires already laid out. With about two minutes of my time, I had the whole thing up and running. A couple of hours later, it was installed in the dashboard. The other two hours were entirely devoted to rerouting the cables between the firewall and dashboard. Even though it was annoying to feed the rectangular cable connectors through the firewall, it isn't a very significant inconvenience. My best guess is that I could reduce it to 15 minutes with practice The 20 minutes has passed. There's something a bit flimsy about the gauge compared to autometers (which feel like they're made out of metal), but you won't touch the gauge once you have it installed, so this will be a minor complaint.
