You can burn off oils and other stuff from a solder iron by allowing it to burn for about 5 minutes after using it (steppers, LEDs, solder iron). As long as it is simple to do, you don't have to pay to have it rebuilt. It is the incandescent light that produces a lot of heat and begins to loosen the resistors, so you lose the function of the instrument. The ones who are not in that much of a position to learn have a great YouTube video to help out. My rating for all was five stars, even for how easy it was The problem is. In order to install the LEDs I had to modify the cabinet installation because the LEDs did not fit It is all well and good as long as the old bulbs are removed Once the soldering has been completed, add solder to the connection points as Test by connecting back up to vehicle and inserting one of the LEDs as a test. Put about a 3-/8" gap between the leads and a slight bend in the long lead. To test the extra soldered points, touch the leads and turn 180 degrees. If it doesn't light, try again later. Two different ways are available for the light to shine. The board should be lit first. The long leads should then be marked with a Sharpie on the board. Bend the leads out to the sides If you must cut the long one last, be sure to cut it last so you don't have to re-cut Reply with a soldering iron There you go! It has been In response to the ones that gave a not favorable review due to brightness, A) you still used the blocks the old lights were on or B) you have issues with the wiring harness to the cluster, as I found that I have just a tiny bit of a problem with.
Everything you need to replace the lights and motors in the cluster is included. Despite the blue leds that come with it, I find it a bit difficult to use. Sleeping with it makes the eyes strain during the night.
As I mentioned above, the primary reason I purchased this 'packaged set' of stepper motors was the fact that it also included a solder sucker. I found this package to be somewhat reasonable with extras, whereas most packages omit the solder sucker (or solder wick). It was actually only 4 stepper motors (all that's available for an 03 Chevy Cavalier) that I required, and LED lights weren't very important to me (since none of mine had yet burned out). My instrument cluster isn't overtly bright (just fully illuminated with no blacked out areas), and I personally dislike it as well. As I feel it is more important to be able to see what is going on on the road, I often reduce the brightness of my instrument display. The 4 GM stepper motors I replaced (leaving me with two spares) were all the ones I needed. It worked as expected (the solder iron smoked for a longer period than expected while burning off the residue) and the 'repaired' instrument cluster is working as expected.
Earlier this year I got the steppers and blue lights upgraded for my 2003 Silverado. I was very happy with the kit. This was a great deal, all my gauges work flawlessly now, and the lights look good too. Then I went back to them and bought two tenpacks of lights and did the rest of my dash with blue lights. The product was what I expected.
Very nice product. One of the things that makes it hard to install is the GM. I mounted my lights on the surface.
This worked like a charm! me a while to get the hang of the solder sucker, but once I had it timed right, it made all the difference in the world.
Very happy with the product. You will be able to do it when you give yourself enough time!.
It turned out to be more of a waste of money because I did not need I gave it to someone who knew what it was supposed to do, and it did what it was supposed to do. I find it to be very useful.
