Three-quarters of an inch in diameter is the black outside ring. The hole in your dash must be 3 1/2" long and the body behind the meter is about 2 1/2" wide. As I have a wood dash, I didn't have a problem, I had to use a wood file to open my hole a 16th inch all the way around, Marty

We have used this in a 68 Chevy C10 (center hole) and it works great. Installation of the cable should be greased. From a TH400 trans I used the 63-inch unit, and it fitted perfectly. There is a smooth action to the speedo and it appears to be fairly quiet, but over the header volume, I can't tell for sure! Having a trip with it makes it even more appealing I replaced the light bulb with an LED one and it works fine (hotter temp, brighter white light). This is going into a truck, so the 80 MPH top speed range is fine. Those who are concerned about quality will find this useful.
Adding this unit to the old diesel truck was a good replacement for the SW unit that was worn out. It was necessary to replace the drive cable as well. As time progresses, it will become clear whether the device will stand the test of time, or whether an electronic meter would have been a better investment.
There was a great speedometer, but it was too large to fit on the dashboard. The hole is too small to be enlarged.
This is the one I used in my 86 CJ-7. It works great and looks great,.
