Questions & Answers
First and foremost, I would not recommend purchasing a gauge that has an internal "shunt." All main power cables must be routed through the car's firewall. There's a lot of cable to run and there's a lot of potential for fire. br>Purchase something with a shunt on the outside. There are several options for wiring this.br>br> What you're trying to measure isn't very clear. br>I refer to the back of the gauge's connections as "1" and "2." br>Szenario 1 (the "standard"): br>Connect your alternator wire, as well as the wire you removed from your positive battery clamp, to "1." All of those wires must be connected to the number "1." Then a wire from "2" to your positive battery is connected. There are no other wires that can connect to the positive battery pole; instead, they must all connect to "1." br>Now you can see if your battery is being charged or discharged, as well as how much current is being used. If your battery is fully charged, your gauge should read close to 0A. The car's current draw, however, is not this. br>br>In this case, I would recommend using the negative wire instead, as it eliminates any potential fire hazards. "1" should be connected to the chassis or engine, and "2" should be connected to the negative battery terminal. Other than the negative terminal, there are no other wires. All of them must proceed to "1." br>br>Szenario 2: If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, try using the words "creative+ para Connect the positive alternator wire to "1" after disconnecting it from the positive alternator wire. Then it's on to the battery with the number "2." br>Now you can see the car's current draw and how much of it is used to charge the battery (only while the car is running). When the car is turned off, you will not be able to see your current draw. br>br>Szenario 3: If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, try using the words "innovative" Connect the positive battery connector to the alternator wire. all other cables from the gauge's positive to "1" Run to the positive battery connector starting at "2." br>Now, even when the car isn't running, you'll be able to see how much current it uses. But that has nothing to do with whether or not the alternator is charging. br>br>Szenario 1 is the one you're looking for. When the car is running, it makes no difference how much current it uses. When the car is running, the gauge will read positive. If it goes negative while the car is running, either the alternator is broken or you're drawing more power than it can deliver. br>br>If the gauge is reading negative while charging, swap "1" and "2."
Either your meter is broken or your alternator isn't working properly. If the meter does not show discharge when the lights are turned on, something is wrong.
Yes, all of our gauges can be taken out of their mounting brackets for in-dash or other custom applications. Thank you for contacting me with your inquiries.
All ammeters have an internal precision current shunt; as current flows through the meter (through the shunt), the meter reads the voltage across the shunt and converts the meter movement to amps on the dial.
Selected User Reviews For Actron SP0F000059 Bosch Style Line 2" Ammeter Gauge (Black Dial Face, Black Bezel)
These are nice, low-cost gauges that are nicely finished and quite accurate. They are not pro-race quality, but they are well-made and accurate. I've put them on a couple of garden tractors and they seem to be holding up well. Although they are not waterproof, a bead of silicone around the base seals them well enough that light rain or a quick wash will not harm them. They can be read in the dark because the backlighting is bright enough.
This ammeter has a nice appearance and is accurate. To test output, I connected it to the output of a 45 amp charger. The inner shunt melted during a long charge cycle! Yep. This item was made in China.
My old amp gauge was too small after I replaced my alternator with a higher output one. This one is precise in its measurements and performs admirably.
Installed on a Ford 4500 tractor where the cluster only had an amps light. On this unit, I also used the Bosch oil pressure gauge, which worked well. I would purchase this item again.
I placed it in a project box with two leads, and it performed as expected, assisting me in resolving my issue.
Excellent purchase.
Although I have not verified its accuracy, it does fit the dashboard hole.
Analog meter of the old school. It's simple to read, install, and it looks fantastic.
