It doesn't matter, but some batteries may have slightly different size posts, in which case this will fit the positive post; I've always installed mine on the positive post, but it will work as long as one terminal has no other connections.

The item is well-made and easily fits into my battery. When I'm gone for a few weeks, I can use this switch to disconnect the battery and prevent it from being drained (this was the main reason I bought the product. ) When I had to park my car outside, I used this handy switch to disconnect the battery and keep it from being stolen. The only drawback is that you'll have to re-enter the code after reconnecting the battery. Your car should have come with a code to turn on the radio and reset the clock, among other things. Consult your car dealer if you don't have the code. The product's design is straightforward and easy to understand. It is also reasonably priced; I believe that the quality of the material matters, and I would be willing to pay more for a higher-quality product if I could find one, but I could only find the cheap ones. Make no mistake: even at this low price, it is still very good. I purchased two and installed one in my vehicle and the other in the vehicle of one of my sons. It comes highly recommended from me.
The post stub to which you connect the car cable is too small for the clamp on the car, as previous users have reported. Making the post end smaller appears to be a bit of a blunder on the part of the manufacturer, but it appears to be standard for this plug based on orders from various vendors. The battery will be securely fastened with this switch. To get a good fit from the cable clamp, I had to use my cutter wheel to widen the slot so I could tighten it enough. I could have wrapped wire around the switch post, but I found it much easier to enlarge the slot. Aside from that, the two I have work perfectly and are the most convenient way to remove the battery. I leave the light switch turned on just to make sure the battery is disconnected or reconnected. If the company had been smart enough to make the post the proper size, I would have given it a 5-star rating.
This is a product that I use in my motorhome. I don't mind the contacts vibrating and touching each other because the motorhome is stationary while the unit is disconnected (and I have no way of knowing if this is a problem in other applications). And, since I'm only going to remove it to change the batteries (which should be pretty rare with this in use), any problems with it breaking when removed and reinstalled will be infrequent enough to justify the cost of a new unit. (I'm getting a backup in case I need it. ) ) This is a very basic device that appears to do a good job.
I wasn't happy with the connection anyway, so it gave me an opportunity to improve it.
I, and I believe others, found this item to be a poor fit. To begin with, the battery terminal opening is unusually large and out of the ordinary. To get it to clamp properly, I had to use a shim. In addition, the battery cable mount stem is oriented incorrectly, making it difficult to mount the cable. third, when you loosen the knob, the cable mount end moves around, allowing it to make contact and reconnect the battery even if it is moved. Overall, the design isn't very good.
It does the job and prevents my turbo cobra's battery from dying while it's being stored.
It looks cheap and has a rough finish, which disappoints me because I paid extra for the Moroso brand; however, I'll use it for a Marine battery bank and it should be fine for that; always remember to disconnect your battery's negative cable if you aren't going to drive your car for more than a week. If you drive an older vehicle with little electronics, this is the way to go, probably safer and cheaper than an alkaline battery. I recommend others to check out the FLAMING RIVER brand of disconnecting switches, they are expensive but well worth the price. I have the big Flaming with the optional padlock on top, a beauty and a real good investment despite the price since it also protects the vehicle from theft.
Simple, well-built, and performs as expected. If only finding the source of my Chevelle's battery drain was as simple as installing this.
