I contacted Pertronix and they had me send a picture of my distributor, then told me what kit I needed. You can get a lot of help from them
The coil is compatible with a Bosch stock It works fine for me due to the blue Bosch.
No, it does not matter which distributor you use.

Everything seemed fine until it went wrong. Despite engine changes, the gas mileage on my 1969 Bug has remained pretty steady through the years. This device, along with new plug wires and plugs, has enabled me to increase my mileage by nearly 10%, now about 27 miles per gallon Gas mileage of 28 miles per gallon. As you can see, it was a bit difficult to position the collar on the distibutor shaft, then to fit everything in place. And yes, the spacer plate was necessary, but it seams to work fine now. 8 months later, here is the update
Still, it was all working fine until suddenly it wasn't. After getting no spark, the bug died the next day, but then it started working again. In the past few years, I have been okay with the old points and condenser Though it was nice having the higher mpg for a while, it wasn't worth the trouble of having unreliable spark generation or having to drive the car until it died.
That is not the way I want things to be. In spite of paying for the higher priced item since it was exactly what I needed, I was sent a cheaper item. Installing it was not a success due to a 180 degree out of sync installation setup. In order to return the item, I would like to have it shipped back.
I like how you have set this up. The following is what I would like to add. Here's an Amazon page with the wrong picture of the item. It displays 91847 as the number. 91847V, for vacuum advance distributors, is the item sold. A street rail such as this one will fit nicely on my VW.
On my Mexican VW bug from 1983, I installed the software. I've had no trouble with it for about two months now. We don't have to worry about points or dwell angles anymore. In my experience, installing this in a stock distributor is better than getting one from Pertronix, and my old distributor stopped working when the vac cans stopped working, causing vac advance problems. Along with these flame thrower coils, I also bought a hot air blower coil.
Shipping was fast and the product works fine.
This is awesome.
In my bug (bought as a used car with a rebuilt engine), there is a cam. It looked like it might be a lot easier to time the damn thing with this. Unfortunately, we were not successful. In my opinion, it is much easier to do than setting the dwell for each point.
Thank you very much for sending me the laptop. I have been trying to install it a year after buying it, but it does not work properly. I think it has some defects, so I should send it to you for inspection.
