In order to update my previous review, I will now do so. In the trash I found my Ignitor that had been burned up. Is it true that the ignition CANNOT be in the on position for longer than 30 seconds without the engine running? It didn't occur to me either until I encountered it online. I was trying to track down a short between the column and ignition when I smoked the ignition. The $75 was thrown down the drain. The design is stupid. The last time I bought one, I didn't buy another one. The warranty is null and void. Those who own an older Nissan or Datsun with points can get rid of the troublesome ones by buying this kit. For the first time since the 1990s, I have not used points in a vehicle.
Be prepared that this unit will not fit if you intend to eliminate the points on a Datsun D11 engine with a Hatachi 414 distributor. In order for this to be possible, there will need to be significant modifications. The product gets 4 stars because it will work provided you have the right tools and know how to do the proper modifications to make it fit this particular.
During this time, it ran better than ever.
It can be a bit confusing during installation. A tapered screw bottoms out and locks A magnet ring that gets onto an internal distributor shaft takes a good amount of convincing. When you adjust these relatively minor issues then the system operates flawlessly. In my case, I used the old screws to lock the ignitor plate which created clearance issues with the ring. I lost some green tape as a result.
It was a good deal for the money and performed.
This product is easy to set up. I only needed a few minutes for it. Due to the short length of the wires, I had to splice more wires to reach the ignition coil.
The PerTronix is installed on all my Datsun cars to eliminate points, and I am completely satisfied It seems that the new cars are easier to start, run more evenly, and can even return a bit better mileage. Installation directions are clear and easy to follow. Be sure to put the rotor back in the distributor after you have completed your job.
