Selected User Reviews For PerTronix 1143 Ignitor for Delco 4 Cylinder
To convert my Ferguson TO30 tractor to a complete 12 volt system, I put an all 12 volt system on it. In addition to the pertronix module, the last step of modernization was the elimination of points and condensers. For conversions on 4 cylinder engines, it is vital to use an ignition coil that has been designed for 3 cylinder engines. This resistor has an ohm value of 5. In addition to 1, a lot of coils have 2. The resistance should be less than 5 ohms, and the three should be included. It was critical for me to get a 5 ohm coil to make the conversion work. Now that I have been in this program for quite some time, I am happier than ever. In comparison with how the tractor started when it had the old points and condenser system, it starts much easier and faster. Pertronix is a great conversion tool that I strongly recommend. It is remarkable how much things have improved since starting.
It is easy to set up. The coil was purchased along with the pertronix, and was installed in less than 15 Originally used with a Delco Remy 1112570 distributor in a Ferguson TO 35.
I wish I had purchased this years ago.
The installation was made on my Dad's 1953 Ferguson TO30. This is a highly recommended read. On my Dad's '53 Ferguson tractor with a 4 cylinder Continental engine and the original Delco distributor, I installed a distributor like this. With regard to starting up and idling, the tractor is so consistent now. There are no points left! As recommended by the instructions, a 3 ohm coil should be used. There is no need to get the pertronix 3 ohm coil, you can use an existing ignition coil that came with your old air cooled VW. My parts store had one for a 69 Volkswagen, so I got that. The TRIPOWER 3 ohm 12 voltage coil is about the only one on the market, and it works perfectly.
It replaces problems with points really well. Several of these units have been put in small four-cylinder engines and I was surprised to see how easy it was to install them. All it needs are two wires to make it work. The only thing I would change is that they can burn up if the key is left on while not in use.
Our 1956 Furguson F40 is now equipped with this. If you add a coil and upgrade the plugs and wires, you will never be disappointed with its performance again. The price is well worth it.
Following the installation of electronic points, I was able to run my tractor better than ever before.
