There are four
There is a common use for this to lower the voltage going to the distributors. With a 12v vehicle, a resistor is used to drop the voltage down to around 6v (which is the voltage used by the ignition points).
When they fail, the motor normally burns out when you release the key at the start. Mercrusers usually have two ballast resistors wired I sense something getting hotter and hotter. For your coil, make sure you get the correct ohms. You may want to check if your coil is getting too

As far as I can tell, it works fine. So far, the only complaint I have is the spade terminals seem to be made from 24 gauge sheetmetal, so they are super easy to bend. While it is not as well made as the 50 year old unit it replaced, what more is available nowadays?.
It died in two days after I purchased it from an auto parts store for less money. As far as I can tell, this one works fine.
As a result, I twisted together a harness, and it worked and performed.
This product works well and is easy to install. The bracket on this makes it easy to mount to the coil and it works as it should. If you have an ignition coil without a resistor, you will need this part.
This is an aftermarket installation that was mounted I like the way it looks and it works.
The job is done.

The voltage is dropped from 12 volts to 6 volts with this device.
