Is it necessary to attach a resistor to the coil here?

The resistance of the primary coil is 1, yes. There are 5 ohms (not 3) to suit, so you need an external 1 ohm resistor. For use with points, a ballast resistor of 5 ohms is required.

What problems could occur if this was mounted horizontally?

The unit needs to be installed vertically or else it will overheat

I believe that Accel 8140 can be installed on an 1989

Is this system compatible with a 1950 Ford 8N system, 12V?

You don't want to cut corners on the coil, heat and vibration will ruin them quickly. I've had years of dependability with Accel's coils.

I used this on my slant six exactly as described. The old boiler leaked oil and was soaked in oil. Due to the bent nature of the original bracket, it was somewhat challenging to replace. As a result, one bolt is partially covered.

Excellent value for the money. This is an excellent product. In the engine bay, the color makes a nice statement. I even got some decals with it, so that was nice! My engine has fired stronger and runs smoother since I added this kit. The coil wire boot did not work with my coil wire, however.

In my El Camino it's been around for 15+ years, but probably it was just the old coil that had issues when it got hot, but it was replaced that fixed the problem. My satisfaction would be if I could get another 15+ years out of the new one.

This was used five years ago! 2016 was the year this coil was made! Five years have passed since this photo was taken

There were areas of worn paint and scuff marks on the coil I received. There is no way to fix this! I don't understand why someone would sell a coil 5 years old! We do not recommend purchasing! A roll of scotch tape was used to seal the box!.

The oil filled coil of this nature needs to be mounted vertically on its side, not on its side

This coil is a little difficult to slide into my stock coil bracket on my GS, since it is larger in diameter. I used pliers to lock in the bracket screw. If you slide it into a bracket, make sure you slide it in in the direction you need as there is no twisting. My experience with such coils tells me that they usually have an instruction regarding what to do when mounting the coils with liquid cooling oil however, when in liquid such as this, the coil is already failing. I have only been a camera for a week The intake process There is no time to tell yet since the ignition upgrade just happened, but I will update if anything happens, so far so good. I removed one star from it because it failed to bring up a fact that the font must.
