The radiator has nothing to do with it. The hood is held in place by it. In place is a prop bar. Above the R headlight, it fits into a small hole.

The prop rod is extremely important to have in the car and to use correctly because it keeps the front hood up and safe. so that it doesn't fall and hit you in the head Mine has already smacked me in the face. It was excruciatingly painful, so do yourself a favor and avoid it. Simply buy one of these, install it, place the prop rod in its proper location, and save the big bump or your gourd for someone else. Isn't it true that the hood smacked me across the head?.
When the original grommet on my wife's 2004 Subaru Outback wore out and fell off, I used it to replace it. Problem solved after a little fiddling (mainly determining which hole it needed to be put in).
I lubricated the edges with Armor All and gently pushed them into place with a small screw driver. Exactly what I needed!.
But I've made mistakes in the past. This is what I installed in my 2004 Subaru Impreza. Excellent fit, excellent quality, and a reasonable price.
This was a genuine OEM part that was a perfect fit.
Everything works as it should.
The rattling noise coming from the vehicle's hood support has been silenced.
