This is the Hellcat lower replacement airbox section from the factory. The left box, which has the plastic webbing, is stock 392 in my pictures. The overall design of the hellcat box is larger, allowing for more airflow and volume. This will fit the factory 392 upper lid as well, as seen in my photos. The lower box of the Hellcat has a rating of 3. The ram air tube has a 5" opening that can be blocked off if you don't want to use it; I just covered it with black gorilla tape while I wait for my 3. Also available on Amazon is a 5" cap insert. This kit is a low-cost factory upgrade for those looking to improve the performance of their 392 while keeping factory components, so there's no risk of voiding their warranty. br>br>In comparison to the stock 392 filter, the factory Hellcat OEM (Mahle) LX3482 filter flows 1055cfm. br>br>Also, the SRT logo on my airbox lid in my photos is just a vinyl overlay.
This Hellcat air box is fantastic and has worked flawlessly since I installed it. Not only has it added a little more giddy up to my 2018 Dodge Charger SXT plus, but it's also keeping my temperatures down. My aftermarket filter fit perfectly, and I was able to increase airflow by adding some tubing to fit the Hellcat's extra hole. There are a few things that must be removed from the old air box and replaced with the new one, as others have stated. I was able to remove the cushioning on the bottom of the old air box and glue it onto the new one, and the rubber piece fits well on the new air box. The shipping was quick, and the product is a great addition to any Charger or Challenger.
The package arrived quickly and in excellent condition. I installed this in my 2018 Challenger SXT Plus for the headlight intake mod, and it's a genuine MOPAR part. br>Foam gaskets are not included. Carefully transfer the ones from your original air box, or use tape-backed foam weatherstripping (I used 1/2"x1/2" stripping) like I did. br>You'll also need to transfer the rubber mounting pieces from the original box (one for the mounting arm and one for the back that sits in the wheel well).
Do you have a scat pack on your person? Then you should get this. Forget about the rest of the CAIs; this is the real deal. Just keep in mind that when removing the old airbox, 1) don't lose the screws, 2) you'll be reusing the filter, and 3) the old airbox has some foam on the side and to seal the bottom, which you can do if you want. 4) The headlight inlets are a major plus if you have them. Take your time removing it; 5) the super long bolt that holds it in place must be replaced with the new airbox. It will come off and go back on if you take your time. It's easy to install because everything is neatly mounted. Take your time, as I previously stated. half-a@@ed jobs with half-a@@ed looks.
Regarding the number 5, The factory air intake is used for needed parts such as the cover and mounting hardware on the 7, and I assume most other models. You'll also need a rubber adapter, which is sold separately, to connect the headlight hole to the fresh air intake tube. If you want the same look as me, you'll also need to purchase the screen adapter shown in the headlight picture. Sounds like a lot, but it's less expensive than most aftermarket air intakes and, based on the dyno specs I looked up, performs better. This allows you to hear the intake and gives you a better throttle response.
If you order this, keep in mind that you will need to remove parts from your old one in order for it to fit properly. In addition, you must work the intake tube on the light assembly's air intake and the breather box at the same time.
It's exactly what I expected: a high-quality part that fits perfectly and arrived quickly. br>The part or supplier are not to blame for the 4 stars. br>With the intake tube and K&N filter, I installed this on a SXT Challenger. With a faster throttle response and an N filter, performance improved slightly. br>The bad news is that the gas mileage has dropped by 1-percentage point. 2 mpg. I tried both KN and stock air filters and got the same mpg. When I put the stock parts back on the car after two months of using this setup, my mpg increased by one. 2 mpg.
