A total of 12" is required. There's no point in getting rid of the things you don't need. If you choose to weld or clamp one end of the exhaust pipe, you will have to hold it at one end.
It's unclear to me what you are trying to do from your question. This lip can be turned 360 degrees and is to be used with a clamp and a ubolt. In order to mount the hanger on a vehicle, mount the end with holes to the frame or body.

Although it appears from the picture that the upper part is rubber, these are decent muffler hangers for the price. As you can see, the ones I received had a metal upper strap and a metal and rubber bottom bumper. It worked well, I simply sprayed some WD40 on the rubber part to make it easier to rotate it 90 degrees so it lines To get one of them to move I had to hit it quite hard with a sledge hammer. The other one got moving quite As I bent the metal part in my vice to line up with the hole in the upper frame, I simply put it in my vice to bend it at 90 degrees. My recommendation would be to use these hangers since they seem to be a very heavy duty set. I used U clamps to attach them to the mufflers and turndowns and it worked great!.
Sadly, as all of the participants stated, the hanger received was not the one shown. However, I believe it's a matter of the hangers being inserted into the box at the wrong location. I was still able to use it for my intended purpose, though it was a fine quality hanger. In spite of this change in hanger, my plan had to be altered. Based on the overall quality of the hanger, as well as its ability to perform the task I needed it to, I rate it as 5 out of 5.
It is just a generic hanger for an exhaust. It is a full loop, not a hook, that forms an exhaust hanger. It would be impossible to fit a regular Napa exhaust clamp In place of my tail pipe, I welded to it. My next purchase would not be this product. There is no truth to the advertisement. There is a cheaper version of the same hanger available at your local parts store.
A few extra bucks are well worth it. Previously, I had bought a set of Victors, and these were far superior. The Victors have been sent back to you. Three of them arrived very strong and I've ordered more.
Bend the hanger 90° with a vice, it is a strong hanger A perfect fit, angled at precisely the right angle for me, bolted to frame with no issues.
