These three components make it simple to replace the stock muffler. A "sawzall" or reciprocating saw, a floor jack (with a jack stand for safety), and a 9/16 wrench/deep socket are all you'll need. br>Jack up the right rear and remove the wheel, using a jack stand to support it. br>Cut the old muffler off close to the muffler, about 1/2 inch away. br>Remove the old strap bracket, muffler and all, by sliding it off. br>Install the new muffler over the exhaust pipe that was just cut. br>Attack the clamp and the new strap bracket loosely. br>Align in place, then tighten the clamp and strap bracket nut and bolt. br>Reinstall the wheel. That's all there is to it. The car is nice and quiet now. This took me no more than 15 minutes to complete!.
I agree with the previous reviewer that this strap isn't as thick as the original Saturn strap that came with our 1993 SL. It does, however, fit the muffler perfectly and costs about a third of what the strap from Saturn used to cost ten years ago. I'm glad Walker has this replacement strap because Saturn is no longer available. After 17 years, a piece of the original Saturn strap bracket rusted through and punctured the muffler, proving that nothing lasts forever. When I used to buy replacement straps from Saturn (because they rusted through every 5-years), it was because they were rusting through. They were $25 each and didn't cover the entire bracket (7 years). Because it was also a perfect fit, I recommend purchasing the Walker muffler (see my review). Yes, it's not stainless steel, and yes, it won't last forever in New England, but the total cost of the strap, muffler, and clamp was under $50 (including free shipping), which is a great deal.
I didn't like the fact that the computer couldn't understand the word "airport," that my street name wasn't in my mailing address, and that it took me six attempts to get the information that UPS didn't have. THE COM APP WAS EXACTLY LIKE THE ANSWERING SERVICE IN THAT IT WAS COMPLETELY UNUSEFUL!.
I like that this part was available with Prime shipping and for a lower price than RockAuto was asking. The only problem I had with the product was that the nut and bolt that came with it didn't fit together (bolt diameter was too small/nut diameter was too large), so I had to use a different nut/bolt combination to keep the clamp together. It's not a big deal if you have extra nuts and bolts on hand, but it's still an annoyance.
The bracket strap is functional, but the nut, bolt, and nut are missing. A small hole was discovered in the plastic bag, but the missing nut, bolt, and nut were nowhere to be found (not even inside the cardboard box).
These things usually come with a bolt and nut to secure the strap ends, but not the most recent one. It's possible that quality control has deteriorated. I'll have to go to the hardware store again now.
The hardware nut was not the same thread as the supplied bolt, but I had spare hardware in the garage.
