There's a lot to like about this The product is made and fit very well. Very happy with it. I made some modifications to the timing chain cover and the balancer since I used an aluminum timing chain cover. As a result, the flange of the lower part of the brake needed to be cut down about 1/4" It was necessary to ground down the inner corners of the mounting plate A second pair of 2" 3/8" studs was purchased as well There must be 24 bolts to have an It was 1/4" shorter when I cut it down. In its own right, the upgraded pointer is a great improvement. That's more of a cover issue than a suspension issue, but it's very close to the balancer cover I installed as well.
My 383 has an 8" balancer and I went to install this. No fancy timing cover here, just the normal one. Obviously it can't be installed as is with an 8" balancer already on the engine. Perhaps it can be installed before the balancer is on the engine, but as soon as it is installed, the bottom bolt WILL contact the balancer and prevent it from mounting. By using an electric cut-off tool, I was able to chop down the bottom of both pieces, and then with a cheap button head bolt I purchased at my local hardware store, I was able to mount up both pieces without any trouble. As mentioned above, it would be nice if the product was made exactly as I have it in the photo Since it's not a load bearing item or anything, designing it this way would allow the car to be installed just as easily, even with a balancer, without compromising performance or anything of the sort. Only order if you are certain that you can modify the part in the way that I have shown I don't think it's rocket science. Before you leave, however, know what you are going to do.
I am impressed. It's a lovely piece of work. The GM crate motor I'm installing in my truck is from the factory. Due to the need for a new balancer on an 8 inch unit since the timing tabs on the sheet metal were horrible. On this one, the bolt sits too far out and far too far out when the lower bolt is tightened. The bolt had to be cut down so that it fit into the hole and make enough room for the bolt to be inserted. This is perfect now but Morose should already offer this modified version.
There was a little difficulty getting the bottom bolt into place, but there was I easily installed it on my 383 with the stock 8-inch balancer after only a few minutes.
There is no question that this pointer is good In contrast, the description should not say that it works with all timing covers, but that it will only fit stamped timing covers. When an aluminum timing cover is used, this cover will not fit.
I had to grind the low point adj bolt to avoid hitting the damper because it did not fit properly. As soon as I touched the pointer, it vibrated. Make sure you use loctite otherwise you might face this problem. I would like it to be 1/8 inch thinner but it is well made.
Most applications require modifications.
Fit my new 8" balancer but not the old one. A damper Model 80002 from Professional Products was used. By cutting the lower mount down, I was able to make the mount fit.
