When it comes to degreeing a camshaft and checking the lobe height and duration, this tool is indispensable. It also simplifies the process of determining the lobe centerline. To allow the lower set screw to slide into the lifter bore, it can be removed or shortened.
I'm no expert, but I do a couple of engine restorations each year. The cam shaft lift and timing can be easily checked with this tool. Any mechanic who needs to check worn cam shafts should use this tool, in my opinion.
It worked exactly as it was supposed to. I use it on the GM LSX series of engines. Only one gripe. br>br> The set screw should be able to fit inside the lifter housing while still allowing free travel. Mine had to be changed.
This tool makes setting cam timing a breeze when building fast-turning, close-tolerance engines. There's no need to assemble a Rube Goldberg system to connect to a dial indicator because this one simply slides into the lifter bore and displays real numbers for cam timing.
It was ideal for adjusting the angle of my LS camera.
