Although the instructions are clear on the whole, I don't think they cover all of the fine details that are necessary for this job. In the case of an Avalon 3, you would install this block heater. I had an engine with a 0 liter, but I also had another Toyota with a 1MZFE engine (mine was on a 2003 Avalon). I can say there is more to it than that, however There is little working space and it is really cramped. This is necessary for accessing the block heater plate at the front of the engine and making sure it's lined up correctly. It was necessary to remove the exhaust manifold and lower (not remove) the exhaust cross pipe that led to the cylinder head on the fire wall side of the engine compartment to tighten it properly. Having studied this project for a while (but not as long as I should have), I ordered the exhaust manifold gaskets as well as the pipe donuts before starting. Due to the studs on the cylinder head and discharge manifold, I had to drop the firewall side cross pipe down (rather than completely remove it) to get enough room to move everything out of the way (I should have purchased two donuts). In any case, I decided to take a chance and left the old donut in place when I reassembling the exhaust system. The container did not leak and I was fortunate.
