Questions & Answers

When installing the frost plug heater, where on the engine is it installed?

The engine you have will affect this. Consult your heater's instructions or catalog. If you prefer better quality, ZeroStart is a great choice. The multiple problems I encountered with my Kats led me to replace it with a ZeroStart.

This would fit a Ford Ranger For a 0 Vulcan engine, to which freeze plug would it be connected? Thanks a lot?

Nevertheless, you need to remove the starter so that you have room to remove the old freeze out plug

In the instructions, it says to install in the correct direction. How do I know which is the correct direction to install in? Where do you want to go? Up, down, right, ?

Installing it in a different engine will affect how it works. It would have been great if the heater came with a reference sheet. On the manufacturer's website, you can find this information if you don't know it already.

I couldn't get it to work, so I recommend a different brand first
3/5

All three of these were possibly design problems, two due to quality problems and one due to problems with the application itself. A heating element that wasn't properly inserted into the copper tube caused the first one to short to ground after it warmed up for a few seconds. Several of the copper tubes on the second cup were not soldered properly, and leaked from where the copper tube passed through. The o-species is present on all three I did not seat the ring deeply enough in my GM 3800 block in order to prevent it from dislodging and penetrating the block (severely), possibly when the engine generated steam bubbles. I am not certain what the problem is, but I think my block might have a deeper chamfer at the plug hole, and that is the reason for the problem. The ZeroStart by Phillips has a deeper open architecture than the one I was using, so I looked for a different solution This review focuses on the ring position, stronger retainer mechanism, and a more nicely made product overall, and I have not had any problems with the automobile since the purchase. There's a price difference, but what you get is worth the price. ZeroStart has been my go-to option for other applications since I bought my first one, and its design and manufacture are of the same high quality. They were nice and helpful during this process, but I never got the impression that they were interested in changing the design that led to me being in a puddle of coolant twice and potentially costing me my engine. Their quality control is questionable as well. My plan is to ZeroStart from here. I believe the ZeroStart cable is better, but in my case, the cords are compatible, so you would probably not have to replace any cables If you only want to replace the heater, you should thread the cord.

I bought one in store, and I found it to be sturdy, and she is still in place and working years later

My water heater blew out after two months, it was cheaper to get one at the store, and the one at the store was sturdy, still working years later.

The Frost Plug Heater is made by Kat
5/5

I installed it myself and found that it worked great for the past two years - I'm on my third winter using it. Any consumer would benefit from the use of this product. For over 35 years, I have always found Kat's products to be the best in the business. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase again if I ever needed.
