As the screws and bolts hardware does not come with the unit, I used the ones from my 4Runner.
That would be a good idea. There is no difference in body styles according to engine size only trim levels and years do.
That is not the case with mine.
It is intended for use with the 1997 4Runner Limited, according to the fitting guide

I'm so sorry. In the end, I opted for this replacement, and it is a true fit for me. It was as easy as using a drill bit on your driver to drill the holes for the Limited fender flares. The front bumper can be removed (1996) by removing the four bolts that attach to the frame, 2 additional bolts near the wheel well, and 2 more bolts, and then the bumper can be removed entirely. Although it is not OEM quality, it does match up with the factory clip holes and all the holes line up. Your 20+ year old vehicle will be back to looking brand new again with no issues and no concerns.

It looks and fits like OEM and provides excellent value in its class.
The 3rd gen 4runner is perfectly suited to this hood, no mods are required.
The box was deeply scratched and cracked when it arrived. I almost think it's.
It looks nice, but it's not that good. I sent it back because it came damaged, but it is not worth it. I thought it would never work, but it did.
