It's a good piece of I replaced the hinges on my 02 Sierra that failed when I was loading firewood last time. It took less than ten minutes for them to install. In order to use this tool, you need a socket wrench and a socket head with the number 13 size. Compared to the originals, they appear to be made of better steel. They seemed to be made of rolled up sheet metal on the old ones. Designed from solid steel welded securely to heavy gauge mounting brackets, these ones are built from solid forged steel. Despite their longevity, I have no doubt that they will last a long time.
I had only minor difficulties with installation due to the rust of my old brackets and rusted bolt heads.
These should be 13mm bolts, and you need to use a 6 point socket to tighten them. After you do that, remember to save the original bolts, as the new brackets don't come with them. It is important to start both bolts before tightening one, as the bracket bends very slightly when tightened to conform to the tailgate. There is also a possibility that you will need to adjust the latch mechanism if you have a problem with the handle sticking when trying to open the tailgate, it is just 2 bolts loosen them a bit and move it, then re tighten.
This part on my 2004 GMC 1500 work truck is stronger than the OEM part from GMC. Instead of hollow pivot points (which failed), the replacements are made of It took 20 minutes for the installation to be completed. Please note On the drivers side pivot, there is a factory shim that needs to be replaced. Fit is accomplished by using a proper fitting device. The originals were only made to last a few months. These will certainly last longer. The only tools required were a socket and ratchet measuring 13 MM in diameter. I won't buy another GMC because of these tailgate hinges that fail, just one more reason (of many) why I won't buy another.
I had been having alignment issues with the tailgate until I installed these hinges. These were the perfect replacements for the old ones which were in extremely poor shape. Their quality seems to be quite good, and I am certain they will last much longer than the truck.
I had always had a good tailgate, though it had a little catch when I tried to unlatch it. A few weeks ago, I discovered that I had to pick it up to close it and unlatch it every time. O'Rileys wasn't going to give me this part, claiming it was part of the "frame," so I looked all over, but nobody The tailgate I have now works perfectly once again, thanks to this product. Since it was only available on Amazon, I cannot comment much on the price. It was remarkably easy to install, maybe 15 minutes, and I received it in just a few days. Amazon has been great to me!.
There are holes that line up on the passenger side, but they are not lined up on the driver side. As you can see below the hole had to be a little bigger because the tube had to be a little longer, but I didn't want to use a drill. Due to the same reason, I could not install the driver side tailgate part, the hole on the side of the tailgate makes the hinge stick out too far for the bolt to fit properly. To avoid spending too much time bending the hinge I'm using the old hinge (female part) until I figure out if I want to bend it or not.
The bolts aligned perfectly and they went on easily using the old ones. Also, this was the best price I've seen for these, and it was a complete set for the tailgate and the sides of the truck. Quite pleased with the result. The fact that I have to baby the tailgate all the time to close it over makes me wonder why we didn't purchase these sooner.
It's great that they are there! In previous ownership of my truck, the tailgate hinges were bent after my previous owner backed into something with the tailgate down. I've never been able to close my tailgate properly. Whenever I came across these awesome hinges I was glad I didn't just give up and give them a try. I installed them myself and they have served me well for the last few months. I feel sort of foolish that I didn't rectify this problem years ago. They seem of high quality and were a great price. Please don't be like me and wait for a hinge fairy to come along and heal your bent hinges on a quiet night. Now is the time to buy them. The wheels fit a 2001 Silverado just as they should have.
