This is a much cheaper alternative than what you can get at a Since I installed them about a year ago, I have not had any problems with them. There aren't many easy ways to install them, but that isn't Dorman's fault. The design of the vehicle is rather to blame. This is an 06 GMC Sierra truck. I installed it. It is possible to step through the installation of these through YouTube videos. Leave the installation of the equipment to a reputable mechanic if you are not mechanically inclined.
As I doubted I would ever succeed with these Dorman switches, I was surprised and relieved to find them A red light appears on every control on my steering wheel. Considering the color of the original switches, there were definitely some cheap bulbs/LEDs in them. I used a flat head screwdriver to pop the switch out and depress the release clip) and it was the easiest to replace since there was still enough wire slack to hold onto with a needle nose pliers while pushing the new switch in place Click as soon as the button is pressed. One of the small switches is a bit more difficult to install due to the wire slack on my Chevy Tahoe (at least) and I crushed a connector spade while trying to pull it out far enough to install the new switch (it still works, fortunately). The installation of these switches has been documented in installation videos on YouTube and on a few blogs, where users have disassembled their steering wheel in order to install them. It's probably a mistake to do so because you will cause yourself more problems. has just failed after it was replaced all of the steering wheel units in September Because they are inexpensive, I'm just going to get another one. Next, nod the steering wheel until the pod is back in place. The "Source" light is considerably brighter and yellower than I would have liked, otherwise I would have given this one five stars. Color/brightness of the light in "Program/On Star Call" is the same as.
As far as looks go, this switch looked like the one from the factory, except the "s" in the word "source" looked like a "y". However, I was able to get over that problem until the first night I used the device. The left side of the switch was dimly lit, and there was no light at all on the right side. I replaced this switch, as well as "all the others", because the lights were burning eBay helped me purchase the replacement part after I returned the original. $10 more will get you everything you need.
I was pleased with how quickly and well it arrived. It can be a little tricky to install if you have never done one of these, but if you are careful, the fix is an easy one if you have an inoperative switch or a burned out bulb, which is what usually happens. Make sure you do not break the wires or plug when the plug is removed, there is just enough space for the plug to let go of the switch when you reinstall it.
Once that was done, everything was easy. The Chevy Tahoe is a 2006 model. There are four control switches mounted on the wheel, and this one (and all four) fits perfectly. I bought these replacements for my 2006 Chevy Tahoe directly from the manufacturer. In spite of the ease of removing OEM switches, installing / connecting the replacements was a bit of a pain. It is impossible to pull the switch out because there is no slack left in the steering wheel. When installing the replacements, I found the best method to use was to thread a small string (kite string) under the connector's body (between the wires) and to use it to "pull" the connector into the switch bottom as you push it in. As soon as I figured out what needed to be done, I replaced all four in about 30 minutes. Once you've installed each switch, make sure it works.
I had to replace all four driver information switches on my 2005 GMC Sierra and I was very pleased with it. Although the old ones had still worked, they did not light up at night and some of the buttons had worn off their black coating. Everything went well with regard to installing the new ones. They now all seem bright and have a nice glow. However, take note of this. There were four switches, three of which lit up as white as the original factory buttons, but one lit up like a blueish-green, being the Dorman 901-based. It is the 121 switch that is at fault. I'm unable to think of a reason that would cause it to be colored differently, it's not a particularly "important" switch that should be picked out. Moreover, there is nothing in the product description related to the color of the backlit. It is, therefore, possible that the manufacturing error was a result of something wrong with the process. Since then, I've ordered a new one, and I will update the review as soon as the new one arrives.
It is true that I could have taken the original switch apart, removed and popped open the bulbs, and resoldered the light bulbs to the new ones, then put it all back together and hoped for the best. But I didn't want to do that. This board is just not my thing, so I replaced it with this one. Soldering fine and precise on a small circuit board just isn't my Work and look exactly as the old OEM, and installation was quick and easy. That's very good news for me!.
I have recently replaced all four steering wheel controls on my 2005 Chevy suburban, and I am very pleased with how they have performed. Since the original controls worked, it has been quite some time since the lighting was updated, so it is very nice to see them working again.
