One evening, someone stole a screwdriver to open my door without my permission by sticking it in the stick cylinder. My alarm went off when they cracked the door, so I was not interrupted by visitors late at night. Several weeks later, we find ourselves in a new situation. The key fob was out of batteries (what a surprise. It all happened at the right time) so I was locked out (I decided to get this in case of an SOS. I took that to my local locksmith, and he rekeyed it so it would work with the vehicle. Although it took 30 minutes to install it, I've done it before on my old doors. If you need a detailed explanation, check out YouTube. Even if you don't have any experience, set aside an hour and you should be fine. I forgot to mention in my video, but it will be much easier if you remove the whole door panel. Unlike a bolt-in unit, it screws in from the inside, so it allows much more work space. I suggested putting in the cylinder from the inside of the door in my video. I tell you, bruh, get rid of the handle and make things easier on yourself. As a result of my unwanted vehicle renovation, the ring holding the cylinder in place was twisted so far beyond its usefulness that I fashioned a replacement with some aircraft wire. Several test runs have taken place since (as I tested out my cylinder) and there has been no issue. The alarm has disarmed and the door has unlocked per my expectations. It is recommended that you replace your damaged cylinder with this item if some hardworking individuals forced the damage on you.
Exactly what I've been looking for.
Simple to install and works as advertised.
We found it to work great with our 2001 Tahoe.
