I think it's a solid piece. Despite this, by the time you are tightening the retainer screws enough to hold it firm, you will dent the cap on the dimmer switch, resulting in the switch not springing back after clicking. My money went to waste on this and I nearly lost a switch, but I happened to remove it and the pressure is now no longer on the switch cap, so it can be turned on and off In order for this to work properly, I recommend installing a rubber ring or similar device to allow for even pressure on the Do whatever I did if you don't. As an accessory to match my "Big Foot" foot pedal, I used it on a 12v cigarette lighter rubber cover plug on my dash.
