Questions & Answers

Who made this? What does it look like? Is it made of steel, aluminum, or plastic?

A steel pipe. With screw band clamps, it can be mounted quickly. I felt like the wind "howl" got eliminated all together after I used this.

Why is this so difficult to To put it together, am I supposed to snap it over the bars or do I need to take apart the rack I already built. ?

Turning the screw releasing the clamp strap from the screw buckle can be done to open pipe clamps, like the ones supplied. Assemble the strap by inserting it into the screw buckle and turning the screw so that the slits on the strap catch the screw and draw the strap back into Practise this process several times with a single pipe clamp. As long as the strap is properly inserted in the buckle, the circular "set" in the strap allows the buckle screw to capture the end. Opened clamps are threaded around the bar, as well as through the clap openings on the wind deflector and into the clamp buckle, which will be on the opposite side of the rack cross bar from the wind

It's similar to a spoiler and is made of plastic much like rain/wind guards. You place it on the front windshield to help block out the sun. I have no idea what the name is. ?

A metal piece is involved. It is attached to the rack, and its angle is adjusted to minimize the effect of the wind at the front of it. I had to adjust the angle several times to obtain the right one.

The angle measures 3 degrees, so this is the size of the angle. It is also known as the 5x5 rule. Does 4 inches sound right to you? Is it really beneficial to mpg or does it harm it? Perhaps letting air pass under the bars would be a better idea?

I returned mine since I did not care for In the past, I found that it did not reduce wind noise from the front bar support, and I don't believe that it would decrease fuel consumption by any means.

I was able to keep my ladder rack quiet with the wind deflector
5/5

A ladder rack was purchased from Harbor Freight for a very low price. Having just bought a new truck, this part was well made and I installed it. It was time to visit a customer, so I put a ladder on it. It was a little noisy through the ladder when the wind blew through, but not excessively loud. Once I was in town, I took the ladder off. As soon as the speed reached 40 mph, the noise became a nuisance. I heard a loud hum when I was 50 years old. The radio was too loud for me at 55. It seems that someone else had the same issue as I did when I examined the HF comments. In the article, he described how he created a similar wind deflector to that of Kargo Master. Having compared the Kargo Master ladder rack to the one I have, I ordered it on Amazon. It is very similar to the one I have, so I'm glad I ordered it. In my opinion, it seemed to be very sturdy and of good quality when it arrived. After it was installed on my truck, it gave me a little relief. Once I found a position where all of the noise went away, I adjusted the angle a bit at a time. We found the angle of the slope to be quite unusual (probably about 45° downward). The latest model of my truck is now as quiet as it was before I bought it. The choice would have been Kargo Master all the way if I could do it again.

There's no way around it
5/5

You have to face it downward! On my truck, I put a ladder rack, which led to an unbearable amount of noise. The order was placed under the assumption that any reduction in noise would be worth $40ish. It didn't make a single difference in the way the truck sounded as we drove down the road. As my buddy was playing with the angle of the sunroof, BOOM! all hell broke loose! Not a sound to be heard I had to face the thing almost straight down in order to get it to work. Having travelled over 6000 miles since January, the bag has successfully held in place and continues to work very well. don't write reviews frequently, but wanted to make sure that all of you knew it worked for me. This truck has a crew cab with a 6'5" bed and a haul master rack with a capacity of 800 lbs. A 28' and a 20' are available nationwide. Please contact me if you need more information.

My Ram 1500 crew cab was fitted with a harbor freight rack that I purchased this for
5/5

The rack totally eliminated wind noise. The wind noise at speeds on the interstate was incredibly loud prior to this switch. I'd say it's about the same as sitting next to a turbojet Prop engine. I looked at other brands of fairings (Thule, Yakima, Inno, etc. ) and although they look nicer, they are more than twice as expensive as this one. I installed the deflector, set it to an angle of 45 degrees (based on suggestions from other reviewers), and the wind noise is practically gone - it no longer bothers me at all - thanks to you! You'll never believe how amazing it is! Other than painting the hose clamps (used for installation) black to match the rack and frame, the only other thing I did with mine was spray paint it black. Deflection device. In case you want to be able to get rid of wind noise from your rack, this thing works really well, and it's very inexpensive.

It works well for noise but is a little rough in the looks department
5/5

I would like to ask you a question. There is no problem with this little length of tin. It may not be true for every truck/rack, but it took the noise level in the crew cab of my Nissan pickup from a fairly loud background noise to a background noise that vanished after five miles, no matter what speed you went. The point of the 'vee' is nearly straight down toward the cab for me. I had to adjust a bit to get the best visual result. That way it seems a little odd, but what the heck. We were surprised by the silver 'plumbing type' clamps holding it to the bracket, which stand out against the black and take a moment to figure out that the tail of the band should go back through the hole it came through.

I bought the same merchant's congo sport rack and it did not help with noise
3/5

I already own the Kargo Master congo sport rack, so I got this to match. The metal duct clamps that are included to attach it to the front of the rack are included. There could be a stainless steel version, or just a zinc-coated one, but my first thought was I would have to paint those black so they don't stick out. But once I put the deflector on, there was no effect. Not only did it not reduce the wind noise, it did not improve the aerodynamics of the rack, which causes my soft top to rattle like an idiot over 40 mph. It would have been good to keep if it had reduced the noise. It did not seem to make a difference to me, so I will return it.

I like it
4/5

The wind noise from my "Congo cage" has been reduced. I don't like that as you tighten the hose clamps, they move and you cannot get a screwdriver through the holes. My solution was to reverse the hose clamps so that the screw was seated on the back of the tube, instead of I don't mind it much at all, but it's kind of.

This is a pretty simple way to reduce rack noise
4/5

With three hose clamps, this lightweight metal wedge is fastened to your rack crossbar. A socket of about an inch will be used to tighten the clamps from underneath). Noise is reduced on my rack thanks to it. Even so, it cannot completely eliminate it, especially over highways. Be prepared for nothing miraculous to happen. Having it at a lower price would make me happier.

I am not satisfied with the quality of the paint
3/5

Only a short time has passed since it was parked on my truck. There is no need to overpay for this. A product of top quality that fit well with my aluminum ladder rack from Kargo Master was what I expected. Rather than a solid piece of steel, I got a bent piece of metal containing I am not satisfied with the quality of the paint. Even though it's only been on my truck for a few months, it is already starting to rust. I should have bent my own out of aluminum instead, which I'm going to do anyhow once the weather turns warmer. The ladder rack does help mitigate the howling noise some ladder racks can make. You just need to experiment with types of angles to find the one that works best for you.
