This is a fantastic tool, and it's even better when you need to get a belt on and off pulleys in a confined space. Pinching and releasing is a smooth and easy motion that does not bind or become stuck. There were some quality shortcuts taken, but they were done for a reason. This isn't a wrench you'll be holding all day; it's a specialized tool, so adding cost for aesthetics and comfort is largely unnecessary. br>br>The reason I docked one star isn't because of poor performance. For starters, it's because of the cost: this is a costly tool for a single task. But you're glad you have it when you need it. The last reason is that when I got mine, the rind that holds the round plate to the spring area was loose, allowing it to slide up and down the rod. It was a simple fox, all I had to do was take a hex key, slide everything back into place, and tighten it up. Design is the basis for deduction. The screw does not go into anything; it simply threads through the retaining ring and applies pressure to the rod to keep it in place. Something to make it more secure would have been nice to have. If it could loosen up in transit to me, I'm confident it can loosen up with use as well. Overall, if the price is within your budget, this is a fantastic product that is a great complement to the serpentine belt tool set.
First and foremost, let me state that I am a substantial individual. That's because it's nearly impossible for me to get my arms where they need to be to change a belt, and even when I do, my arms are torn up. This tool eliminates the need to push your arms into places they don't belong. Every time I need to replace a belt, I use this along with the gearwrench flex head serpentine belt tool kit.
It makes it much easier to install drive belts. When I work on Hondas, I find that some of them have very limited space for installing the belt. I can push or pull it with this, which saves me time. It also keeps the scratches on my arm to a bare minimum when I'm changing a drive belt.
So far, I've had good luck with the GearWrench belt grabber tool. It makes it a little easier for me to install serpentine belts in tight spaces. The belt would fall out of place in my older version because there were no moving parts, but this tool allows you to hold the belt in place while maneuvering it into place. br>It is possible to recommend. br>This is an unsponsored, unsolicited review from a master mechanic with years of experience.
If you work in the auto/truck repair industry or are a do-it-yourselfer, this is an excellent tool to have. This item is available from Snap on under the gear wrench and blue point brands, with the blue point version costing more.
Due to the high mileage of the fleet trucks I work on, I am constantly changing belts. I can now replace most of these belts without having to remove the fan thanks to this tool. Also, because I have longer arms, I no longer have to cut them up with this tool. Each and every penny was well spent.
It's a specialized tool that I won't need for a few years, but it's nice to have. I'll tell you, it made changing the belt a lot easier, and it saved me time and back pain from having to get up and down so many times. Was it a good investment? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
It worked perfectly to begin hooking on my belt from above, around the bottom of the crankshaft pulley, without having to get under my truck.
