Leaving the permanent splices (top of "Y" - top of the hvac) in place is not recommended. You just need to peel back the protective cover and you're ready to go To cut them as close as possible to the splice ends, use a sharp knife. This new splicer should be fastened in place with a screw clamp. If your handy, you can do it for about $19 bucks and maybe 45 minutes of your time. Not that you'll need so much time! * BETTER than buying the assembly from the dealer ($100) and arranging for it to be installed ($300). The job I just did was only 45 minutes long and I got paid $381 bucks! For the rest of my life, I intend to quit my day job and install those splicers that fall apart every 50K miles! I wish you the best of Wishing you a happy and prosperous New Year!.

Although I purchased this for my 09 Grand Caravan, you can buy it too if yours is a Y-chrome vehicle Whenever you break a pipe, you'll need the whole assembly, because the stock hoses cannot be detachable from the stock Y-pipe It's a pipe.
