Questions & Answers

Do you know if this would fit a 1994 Chevy Caprice?

Actually, it does. I have one on my 96 Chevy Caprice. You have to notch the end of the steering column for it to clear the clamping bolt.

Is it possible for you to tell me the inside dimensions of the ends? What kind of splines do they have? Are there more than one?

It has a spherical end with a flat spot where it can be located, and a doubled D shape at one end. The one I used on my gm truck was to get rid of the rag joint

I would say the shaft is too large, even after the bolt has been run Could you help me with my 86 Monte Carlo installation?

My clamp had to be spread apart a little to fit the shaft in the column after I installed it on a C10. As well, I melted the plastic on the shaft with a propane torch after cutting it a little. As soon as it cools, the plastic will maintain My gearbox barely fit on the gearbox itself. Several of my trucks have been equipped with these, but I have never installed one on It is not impossible to install them on Monty's, as I have seen them done in the past. You may have to install it in accordance with the year you purchased it. You're off to a great start!

Great upgrade to the intermediate shaft that came with the factory GM 80
5/5

Easily slid on to my 1981 Trans Am intermediate shaft with no issues. I had to remove a little bit of material on the steering column side of the firewall where the shaft slips over to clear the top bolt, but that was easily done with a hand file. Put a piece of flat stock in between the gab, then thread the top bolt down enough to spread out the top portion of the bar to make it easier for you to slide it on the steering column side. Here's a tip The intermediate shaft at the center of the pump can be loosen with a little heat. As long as you heat the plastic to a high enough temperature, you can slide the parts into place. The plastic maintains the stiffness, but you need to heat it up enough to enable the sliding. This is an upgrade for a factory GM intermediate shaft from the 1980s, it has a U-joint at both ends instead of the rubber disc that came on the stock steering boxes of that era.

Upgrading to a S10 from 1993
5/5

My S10 steering shaft from a '93 works great, was easy to install, took about 2 hours. You will need to Dremel a small notch in the upper column shaft in order to make a hole for the pinch bolt. Take your time to do this because it is just a little bit removed. With a torch, I melted the plastic weld on the inside of the shaft. I then cleaned both shaft halves and greased them with oil, and sealed the shafts with an accordion boot that I purchased. As well as M8-long full thread bolts, I purchased The pinch bolts should be 25 x 40 and the nylock nuts used to secure them. The bolts used Loctite to hold, and I suggest it for 1st generation S10s. I used 35 ft lbs and Loctite.

The part is perfect and of good quality
5/5

Keep in mind that this is for a Jeep, not for Although minor modifications are necessary to make it fit perfectly, they will definitely be worth the effort. One is on my 1989 suburban and the other is on my 1990 GM had a rag joint there before, but this one looks and works better.

The Jeep steering shaft is the correct one for the GM G Body! This is a brand new steering shaft that I used as a replacement for my stock rag joint shaft in my 1984 El Camino
5/5

A Bernz0matic propane torch that you find in a hardware store must be used to heat up the center of the shaft so that you can install it. When you do this, the plastic 'goo' inside will melt and the shaft will telescope in and out so it can be installed. My shaft was waiting for me because it was hot enough for it to move, so I spent a good 10 minutes heating it. It's a myth that a 'heat gun' will do, but trust me, you need a torch to do the job. This is an excellently painted piece that did not dull at all when it was heated with a torch. The steering was improved greatly by this shaft. Thanks to the old worn rag joint, I had a lot of free play. Most of the slop in the shaft has been eliminated since installing this shaft. Another part of the problem has to do with the steering box itself and other Upgrade that delivers a lot of bang for your buck!.

I got what I needed, but I need to improve significantly
3/5

I really like how it turned out. There was a problem with the unit being shipped fully extended. Installers would not be able to compress files to ensure As a result, I had to use a blowtorch It was effectively useless as it was shipped from the factory. There could have been a better job done.

This is new
5/5

An ideal fit for a G-Body. Installs in a matter of seconds. It's a great unit and I don't dislike anything about it. My Olds 442 needs another one, and I would like to get another one. I love the power coating. It lasted and shined even after I put a torch on As soon as the cooling process is complete.

I really like I had to make a quick change to make it fit The plastic is removed with a propane torch, and it is heated up
5/5

As another reviewer mentioned, I heated it up with a propane torch. A perfect fit on the steering shaft. (A notch needs to be made for the bolt) And on the steering system.

This is a sturdy My Jeep was bought to be modified into a 90s GM truck, so I can't comment on whether it fits a Jeep well.
