This set of GM 15761817 and GM 15040333 is a MUST for any bumper replacement task. The spare tire access tube that runs through the bumper requires all three of these parts to be replaced properly. There is no point in wasting your money/time on aftermarket junk, and you should never try to reinstall The old one can be used. As soon as it's in, it will never be able to come You'll understand why it is necessary once you put this retainer in your new bumper. ** It's a bit of a pain to lock in the two pieces of the retainer. I gave it one star for that. To secure the retainer ring in place, once the first piece with the flanges has been positioned in the hole on the bumper, you will have to tap a hammer/screwdriver down into it. When you have done that, then bang the plastic tube into the retainer until the little door is flush with the bumper surface. When you do this, be careful to make sure the door is aligned horizontally on the bumper. Once the door has been secured in the retainer, you do not want to trouble it or rotate it. The teeth on the retainer will damage the tube and lead to a failed.

It is not worth buying the aftermarket cheap version, as it will just waste your money and your time. A half hour and a half later, I got tired of searching and threw away the aftermarket parts. I ordered the genuine GM parts and assembled it within minutes. Learning from your mistakes is the only way to advance in the world of GM!.
I got it to work even though it was not an exact fit for my 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE. The perfectionists like my self should not use it.
Do not settle for a cheaper knock off like I did. This is the one you should buy.
