There was a leak, which led to having to redo the job twice! There was a nick in the seal on the cover. In order to install the new seal, I had to remove the old one and install a gasket maker between the seal and the cover. I recommend purchasing the cover alignment tool and installing the cover first before installing the seal to eliminate any possible issues. It's impossible to align the cover correctly with the seal in place I wish I had done more research before I purchased the cover with the seal.
When the gasket and seal are unboxed, they appear to be of good quality. The plate has a nice finish as well. I pulled out the seal and put it back in the truck, but after driving 10 miles it started leaking, worse than the seal. The directions provided even for the use of the centering tool were followed. Even just getting to the seal is hard to do in my 4wd due to its physical size. I found the seal completely flat when I finally got it out of the truck. The performance seal I bought from summit racing was an OEM product. I haven't had a drop of oil since I switched and you can immediately tell the difference in quality. There is poor quality control on the part of the manufacturer in my opinion, not the seller. This item isn't worth your money.
There is a seal already in place. When the cover and gasket are good quality, use RTV, even if they are gaskets. By doing this, you will prevent the block from having a bad mating surface later on. Bolts located on the oil pan must first be tightened prior to bolts on the cover. Remove the oil pan bolts, loosened and retorque them after the cover bolts are tightened. For cover, 18lbs are required. There are nine lbs of torque required for oil pan.
Using this kit on my 2009 GMC Yukon rear main seals is a great idea. There are reviews on Amazon that say that the item is not good or doesn't fit right and leaks more than it did before the gasket was added. In reality, this is a very good product when installed by a mechanic who knows his or her trade. Unlike other rear main seals, it does not require any special installation. The kit was actually on backorder at the dealer, and that is the reason I purchased it. This entire kit is required to replace the rear main seal on a Yukon -- only the gasket is not included.
It was exactly what I was looking for, saving me a lot of time In less than 4 hours, the mechanic was able to install the seal.
This part is great in its own right. Nothing has leaked, the fit is perfect. journey to get there is, however, not for the faint of heart. It's an arduous, bear of a job on a 4WD. All the exhaust components, the crossmembers, the transmission, the starter, and probably more have to come out or at least be It would probably be much easier for the work to be done.
The product was purchased twice, one for each job. I used it on my 2005 suburban for the first time. Putting the transmission back into place caused the seal to leak even more than it did The second one was installed the same way, and the outcome was the same. In order to get the transmission to stay dry, I had to remove it three times. The solution I settled on was using a plain rear main seal from an auto part store.
It's too late to return since I did not use it. * The seal is already in the cover of the product, so it's impossible to center it properly. Ensure that the seal is properly centered to prevent it from leaking. The company did not respond to my direct inquiries.
