Questions & Answers

A thread size is how many threads are in one inch?

Those who have the OTC #4579 slide hammer will recognize this tool's fit for the 5/8 X 18 fine thread. It was only 10 minutes ago that I checked. Hopefully, this will put minds at ease as buying decisions are made and put the apparent confusion to rest.

Do you think this will work on an ATV or a UTV?

There is a flange that you can get a hold of, so yes, it will work. Different axle designs are used on each vehicle, so the answer will vary. Hope you will have a great year!

Can someone tell me if they have used this tool to pull axles out of Polaris Rzr?

It's not clear to me. There is a 1 7/8" gap between the tool opening and the tool.

OEM tool 27058, on what kind of cars does it work?

The 2004 Infinity G35x won't be able to use this. There is an opening of 48mm on this tool A 66mm focal length is required for infinite

A 2008 VW Rabbit has been reported stolen
5/5

On our VW 2, I was really having a hard time getting the drivers side driveshaft out of the transmission. The rabbit has five legs. After playing with it for days, I decided to give it away. The ability to penetrate or pry - bars and sledge hammers (scared of cracking the case), wire ropes and vice grips (because the slide hammer kept making contact with the case). It was getting difficult to figure out whether I would ever be able to remove the CV joint. I came across this tool after all the research I had been doing and ordered it out of desperation after I read that another reviewer had used it on a rabbit. With an OTC extension bar and a Neiko slide hammer, it met my needs. The other reviewer said he had to grind down the product a little The joke was on him. In order for the tool to fit behind the CV joint, I chopped off the minimum amount of its original thickness on its prongs, but had to grind the back almost half of its original thickness. It was becoming more and more likely that it would break now that it was too weak. Regardless, after the stubborn joint was finally cracked by only three strikes, within less than a minute the joint was freed. That made me feel so much better. In spite of being thinned out, the tool held up well. In the event of a stubborn, stuck CV joint, here's my advice. Spend just a couple of days on this instead of wasting days.

I highly recommend this book! Remove the CV axle shafts in front wheels without prying them out with pry bars
5/5

A 2007 Mazda 3 is being worked on by me, and I need to swap the engine for the To work on the axle shafts, I need to remove them. In order to remove the driver side axle shaft, one must be extremely persistent. Using a prybar to pry the transmission makes me worried that the aluminum case will be damaged. I was fortunate to receive this item quickly, so I was able to remove that axle shaft without too much difficulty. I only had to slide my slide hammer three times for it to pop On a 2007 Mazda 3, I also used this attachment on a suborn water pump.

The box you'll get in the mail will be very handy
5/5

This is a good deal. Used this tool to replace the front axle on the Chevy Venture's passenger side. It was impossible to pop the inner CV loose with the pry bar, pry bar plus hammering, or pry bar + air hammer, but I succeeded with this tool and the 5-inch pry bar. It took a 10-pound slide hammer to get the job done. It was a good deal, I am glad Despite this, there are probably going to be just as many cases in which this tool will not work because the CV joint is recessed and located far away. Ah well, at least it wasn't too bad. I think the OEMTOOLS version is well built and seems to be of similar quality to the version sold by OTC. I don't notice any difference in quality of construction whatsoever. The picture of the OEMTOOL's version of this tool is of the backside, while the picture of the OTC's version shows the front. The form factor is.

An excellent tool for pulling the hubs on inner CVs
5/5

The 4T65E fits the passenger side perfectly (2005 Impala) When using the Harbor Freight 3 lb slide hammer, it was a perfect fit. The inner CV hub is pulled out of the transmission using this tool. In order to fit the tool in on the driver's side, I had to get creative because the transmission cover on the driver's side has raised spots around the CV hub where the tool is normally positioned. Working up at an angle and applying a lot of pressure, I had to work from the bottom up to achieve the desired result. The pros are Excellent construction and good price can be applied to virtually any CV inner hub pull, even if an element of creativity is required. The cons are Depending on your application, thickness may be a factor worth taking into account for fitting.

For $20, you get awesomeness
5/5

During the process of working on a 2007 VW Rabbit, the driver's side CV axle did not come I ended up buying it after I saw it on YouTube, cut my finger, and had a lot of trouble with it. Initially, I had to grind it down a bit to get it to fit between the trans and CV joint, but once it did, three bangs with the slide hammer was all it took! The product is amazing and I would highly recommend it to everyone.

ACV axles must be replaced with this part
5/5

A few years ago, I replaced both front CV axles on my Kia Rondo. In reading the manual, I read that use of a slide hammer and one of these attachments would make life much easier, but decided to go without it (basically It took me nearly an hour to remove the driver's side axle, with plenty of scrapes on my knuckles. To be honest, I caved and got myself another one to use on the passenger's side of the vehicle. With this device I was able to remove the axle in just a few seconds, and it saved me so much hassle on the driver's side. Well worth the money for the ease in which you can remove this axle.

Slide hammer accessory made of solid metal
5/5

Those of you who work with CV axles know the need for this part. I had to go to the store to buy it since Auto Zone no longer carries it as a rental. It is not that expensive, and it is a good product. To use this part, you will need the OEM 27033 slide hammer (5 lbs). To begin with I tried using my other slide hammer (3lb) but the threads did not match so I had to also use the 27033. I highly recommend this combination. It does the job with minimal effort.

Worked for me
5/5

The price of some specialty tools is not prohibitive. In 2001 I used it to match an old Because of the subframe of the Buick, it was a little tricky. I had to hold it at weird angles so that it wouldn't pull straight, which was my fault. Even so, it worked well with a slide hammer and we got the lid off on both sides. AutoZone might have it for rent, but I will just keep this in case I need it in For this attachment, I did have the slide hammer rented free of charge from them.
