The number is BS 40607

Where the driveshaft enters the transmission on my 2009 Forester, there is a leak. Could you please tell me if this is the right seal for the job?

This is the "Rear Main Seal", which is located on the back of the engine behind the flywheel (on manual transmission cars) or the Flex Plate (on automatic transmission cars). Subie is most likely the only place to find the seal you are looking for.

When removing the transmission from the engine, make sure it is properly lubricated

On my car, the clutch felt like it was slipping, and there was no obvious oil buildup anywhere. The only sensible thing to do was to prepare to replace my clutch before things got worse. Replace the rear main seal while you're already there, even if there was no leak, which there was. It will give you peace of mind and reduce your labor costs.

The clutch must be replaced after the clutch installation

My clutch install was done after I did a great deal of research. When replacing the clutch, you must remove the transmission, therefore this is an essential replacement item and this Fel-Pro clutch is one of the best options. A lot of the pros seem to be- This is an excellent product.

There are no leaks and the fit is correct

It was necessary to replace a sealed of lower quality (ULTRA-2 ), purchased from a discount auto parts website, Fepro's one fits well and looks better quality than the previous one. The lesson learned is to spend a little more and to do the job once instead of twice.

It wasn't too tight or loose at all, I didn't have to force it in at all. It seems like a good seal would do the job if you are looking for one.

The OEM (Subaru) is a good alternative to this

Seal I got was black with NOK written on it. As for the OEM (Subaru) one, it is brown and listed NOK, and since it is coated with viton, it has a long service life. The seal is not sure if it is a Subaru seal or if it is a Fel-Pro seal A Pro seal is used by Subaru, or none at all. Installing this rear seal was equally simple as installing an OEM one. The inner seal must be lubricated prior to assembly. Avoid rolling the inner seal edges over during assembly.
