Connection to the lanyard is permanent
4/5

I suppose I should have looked around a little more before making a purchase. I'm almost done with the installation. I bought it to replace the brake system on the car I tow behind the RV. Although the product appears to be well-made, I believe it has one significant design flaw. The lanyard connecting the RV and the tow car is permanently attached to the breakaway switch end, leaving a loop on the other end to be attached to the RV via a quick link or similar device, which means that when I'm not towing the car, I have to coil it up and let it hang down from the grill area. Once the car is unhooked from the RV, the baseplate and hookup points are mostly hidden. The previous breakaway could also be unhooked from the car end, allowing it to be hidden. Everything else's "hidden" design is defeated in this way. I understand that this is purely cosmetic, but I have a nice car and don't want a cable dangling from the grill when it isn't being towed. Fortunately, I have a swaging tool that will allow me to remove the permanent loop attachment from the car end, create a new loop in the cable, and attach a quick link to that end as well. Otherwise, I'll have to spend time coiling the cable, finding twist ties (I always lose the old ones), and securing it to the car's grill in a way that doesn't damage it when the car isn't being towed. This may appear to some as a minor detail, but it would have been a deal breaker for me if I had realized it before placing my order. br>NOTE: THIS PAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED. Before cutting the loop off the car end, I made sure it was long enough to reach between the RV and the tow car. It turned out that it was already too short. As a result, I repurposed the coiled one that came with the breakaway switch. I guess this isn't meant to be used for towing a RV car when you only have a couple of hundred pounds to tow. In the middle, there's a 3-foot tow bar. If the switch is mounted close to the trailer's tongue, it should work fine for trailer hookup.

It's fantastic
5/5

There isn't much to say about it; it works well and is reasonably priced; the cable is a little difficult to yank out, which is a good thing because you don't want it to come out while towing your trailer down the highway and locking up your brakes!.
