When operated continuously at 200 Amps DC, the switch is not expected to overheat. For 200 amps DC, the wire gauge to amps sizing chart suggests using 2/0 cable or larger, depending on the length of the run. The 1000 amp rating refers to the maximum current rating for a 15-second momentary surge. Only one of the two keys is usable. br>On top of the unit, there are ON and OFF labels, but they are reversed. Off is really on, and on is really off. br>It's not worth the hassle of returning it, so I guess I'll just have to put up with more Amazon junk.
Junk. I usually take these reviews with a grain of salt, but I spent a few hours on my HD motorcycle installing this. Everything appeared to be in good order and functioned correctly. I reached for the key to turn it on a few hours later and the entire shaft fell into my hand; I didn't even try to turn it. When I touched it, it simply fell off. JUNK.
In my RV, I have (2) 100 Amp Deep Cycle Lithium LiFePO4 batteries; after witnessing a few RV fires caused by shorted unfused wiring, I decided it was time to install a cut-off switch. turn off the switch It takes some time and effort to determine the best location closest to the Batteries, as well as the use of heavy-gauge cables that require some flexibility. When using a Battery Disconnect Switch, always use the negative cables. This is because the body and frame are both Negative Ground, so if a cable is pinched in an accident, there will be no harm done. This switch comes with two red plastic keys, which you should locate with the key in the "ON" position to ensure it is out of harm's way. When the RED key is powered "ON," it will not come out of the socket, so KEEP THAT IN MIND WHEN MOUNTING.
On a custom overlanding vehicle, these served as a master disconnect as well as a winch power switch. Until a fuel line incident sprayed fuel onto the disconnects, everything was fine. THESE DO NOT APPEAR TO BE CHEMICALLY RESISTANT! This appears to be something worth noting! Shortly after, the internal spring pressure caused the plastic on both switches to break apart, allowing very high amperage cables to contact any nearby bare metal ground. Only God's protection kept it from becoming a disastrous fire!br>Spend a little more and get the all metal style, which is much safer!.
Good value, but one major design flaw: when the unit is turned off, the connecting handle falls out; unlike previous models, which held the on/off section in place whether the unit was turned on or off, this one does not. Sorry for the stupid design, which requires you to remove the red handle at all times or risk losing it.
I also bought a short cable to connect the positive battery terminal to the switch, and then ran the positive cable from the RV to the other switch terminal. It really works. br>br>Pictures to give a sense of scale and to respond to the question about the key's size. I couldn't respond to him/her on Amazon because they wouldn't let me.

For on or off, don't put your faith in it. Update. From the four that were requested. 1 is melted and arched. One doesn't work (I had to melt a wire to figure it out), and I'm not sure about the other two. br>br>Old reviewbr>Haven't had a chance to install them yet; if anything changes, I'll keep you updated. They arrived quickly and in perfect condition, and the quality appears to be excellent. I don't think it'll be a problem for me.
It appears to be a solid, long-lasting, and dependable product, with a secure detent in operation that prevents it from turning on or off accidentally. I like that the key can be removed and that there is a backup key in case I misplace the first.
