This shim had to be opened so wide that it only covered 2/3 of the battery post, and I couldn't close the terminal clamp because it was so thick. At its widest point, the inside diameter is 1/2", and the thickness is 3/16".

The battery terminal was never fully tightened for some reason, and it was always loose. I slid this over the terminal, the post squeezing it in place, and now it's a good, solid connection. It had the desired effect. Thanks!.
