Selected User Reviews For Quicksilver Starter or Power Trim Solenoid 96158T - for Mercury or Mariner Outboards or MerCruiser Stern Drives
Quicksilver solenoids from Mercury were ordered. In a plain white box, I received bootleg solenoids. No screws, nuts, or washers are included. When you pay top dollar for genuine Quicksilver parts, this isn't cool! MAD!.

Within five years, all three sets had failed. I was fed up with it and decided to look for alternatives. I had my doubts because one reviewer claimed they weren't OEM, but they are! They come in a white box with a genuine Quicksilver sticker on the front, and the solenoids are numbered and engraved in the same way that Quicksilver does. I just wanted to give people a sense of security. When I put them on, I immediately notice a difference in the speed and sound with which my trim now rises and falls. When I started the trim on all of the aftermarket ones, there was a slight delay and a different clicking noise. If you're going to replace one, you might as well replace both while you're at it!.

The solenoid arrived in a Mercruiser box with the correct part number on the label, but the part inside had a completely different part number that I couldn't find. I wouldn't be able to cross the part number again if I needed to replace it. Is this a genuine Mercruiser component or a knockoff? The solenoid fit and functioned as expected, but I paid a premium over other brands.

Identical to the original in appearance and functionality. Although it's better suited to be a trim relay, I suppose it could be used as a starter relay on a smaller engine. Mine is a 200HP Mercury, and the starter relays don't look exactly like this, despite being 12v as well. There are no issues.

This is a non-OEM solenoid, as previously stated. I thought I'd take a chance and try this, but it turns out I was wasting my time because it's clearly not OEM right out of the box (different mounting bracket, no rubber insulators), and it also doesn't work. JUNK.

The construction appears to be of OEM standard. This part was a perfect fit and performs admirably. The part's design made it simple to install, though the design of my boat required me to swap it into place while standing on my head.

The original solenoids lasted 17 years and were delivered quickly and at a reasonable price. Because of their location on the boat, they were difficult to replace. In the hopes of not having to replace them for another 17 years, I decided to go with the OEM.
