Questions & Answers

Is this going to fit a 5 inch lift Excursion?

It was a perfect fit for my 2001 Excursion with a 5" lift. The end- Although the links are adjustable, I wouldn't recommend using them for more than 6" of lift because there would be too few threads inside the end-cap. links. Make certain that the end-of-the-paraphrase is included. First, loosely attach the links, then snugly attach the bar and tighten everything up.

Is this going to fit my 2001 Ford F350 4x4?

That's what I believe. It was a perfect fit for my 2001 Ford Excursion Diesel. It has a 1ton drive train and is comparable to a F250.

Is this the correct fit for a 2002 Ford E450, and is it the 1-year warranty? Spring steel with a diameter of 1/2 inch in chrome?

1 1/4 in. Bar Dia . No, I don't think it will fit the f450 because the rear housing is different.

The end of the swaybar appears to have three holes for adjusting it. Is the first hole (from the end) the one that requires the most force or the one that requires the least?

For the least resistance, go to the farthest hole. On mine, I went with the middle.

Ford Excursion 4x4 7
5/5

2000 Ford Excursion Don't let other people convince you that the hardware is the issue. I'm not sure if that was a thing before, but if it was, hellwig paid attention and installed high-quality hardware. With my impact, I had no trouble rattling on every nut down to probably 200 foot pounds. Very sturdy bar. The polyurethane bushings take about 5 minutes to install with a standard bench vise or BFH, and that includes lubricating everything. Do yourself a favor and jack the rear up a little so you don't have to wrestle with it as much, but wrestling with it is unavoidable; it's an awkward job under the truck, but not nearly as bad as anything else you've swapped out on your 7. Three excursions are planned. br> A good tip is to wait until the bottom shocks and bolts are back in place before tightening anything. You can tie a ratchet strap to the bottom of the shock mount and attach it to the trailer hitch, then pull the assembly to clear the shocks before tightening the ubolts. After almost finishing, I had too much angle trying to mount shocks, but loosening the ubolts and using the ratchet strap to pull the shock mounts into place solved the problem. Once you're down there, you'll notice something. Overall, the excursion is now running like a dream. I'm really looking forward to towing with the new setup. The truck rides fantastic thanks to a redhead steering box, new ball joints, and steering linkage.

The final product more than compensates for the installation difficulties
4/5

This is required if your Excursion does not have a rear sway bar. This newer style of helwig has better end links and more adjustability, and it fits perfectly on my 2005 without any modifications. I used this in conjunction with modified C code F350 springs, and even with a few inches of lift, the links still had plenty of adjustment. The directions, on the other hand, are a nightmare. Hellwig should remove them from the box because they're so bad. They only add to the confusion of what should be a simple installation. In addition, the instructions fail to mention that the shock mount holes must be drilled out to accommodate the larger U-bolt. bolts. I was also sent an odd arrangement of locking hardware that I don't believe was the correct amount, which would have been nice to know ahead of time. I simply doubled up on the locking nuts I believe were missing by adding a few extra nuts I had on hand. The bushings in the end links are the only other niggle. They were a pain to get up and running. After greasing them up and installing them, I ended up using my 20 ton shop press, but I don't see why Hellwig would force the customer to press these into the links if it wasn't because it was cheap. Overall, it's made driving a fully loaded excursion around corners and on the highway as simple as driving a prius. I'm not sure how that feels, but I'm sure it's simple. On twisty roads, it now corners very flat and feels more surefooted. This is a fantastic addition to the greatest SUV ever made.

It works well, but installation could be a little more straightforward
4/5

First and foremost, this is a fantastic improvement over my Excursion. It makes a huge difference in taming the sluggish ride and shaky steering. br>Can you tell me why you only gave it four stars? That is what installation is all about. The end link bushings come uninstalled and require some effort to assemble. For me, that small part of the installation took at least half the time. It took about 3 hours for me to complete the task. from the open box to the driver's seat of a truck Another issue with the installation was an unmentioned parking brake cable bracket that had to be relocated and reinstalled. There was no mention of any equipment. I had a few bolts left over from another aftermarket part installation that worked perfectly. However, I had to unbolt and rebolt a few times to figure it out. If the parking brake cable and endlink bushings came with hardware and instructions, that would be ideal. I'd say it would have taken about an hour instead of three hours to install. If your truck is rusted or you don't have an impact gun, you can expect to spend more time. Use a lot of lube and gloves (that stuff is nasty) to get the bushings in. I used my body weight to press the link ends against the rubber bushings. The hole and metal tube were then lubricated. I placed the entire assembly on top of a large socket that was large enough to support the metal without causing the rubber to deform. I drilled a hole in the tube and hammered in a bolt. If you try to do it while the rubber is in contact with something, it will squeeze down and prevent the tube from passing through.

The quality is excellent, and it fits perfectly
5/5

Excursion is a Ford vehicle. It took out some of the weak spring wallow and gave it a more stable and planted feel when I installed it on my 2003 Excursion. It's fairly painless if you sort the hardware and assemble the two side links first on the bench (takes about an hour if you take your time and lube everything well as you go) and then install the unit on a different day. It took about 1 hour to install everything in the truck. It took me 5 hours because I had never done it before, and removing the shock brackets caused some pause in getting everything to rotate properly. Mark the position of the shock brackets on the axle (chalk) and loosen the lower shock bolts to make everything more pliable while removing the U bolts to save time. Because the new U bolts have a larger diameter than the stock bolts, I was worried that the holes in the shock brackets would need to be drilled, but they didn't, and the larger bolts fit perfectly. To prevent squeaking, lubricate the inside of the D bushings on the bar as well.
