Questions & Answers

We don't know the lift size on my 99 XJ, but it's somewhere between 4 and 5. Is this going to work for 6?

yes. My xj is lifted 6" and the steering stabilizer fits perfectly.

I recently purchased this and am about to install it on my 2006 TJ, but the bushing sleeve appears to be too large. Is the OEM wheel in good condition? Is it normal for the inside side bolt to wobble?

My Rubicon is from the year 2005. On the stock front end, I used the same stabilizer. It's been over a year, but I don't recall the bolt and bushing having much play. It's fine if you wiggle a little because you'll torque that bolt (I forget the specs, but it's around 50-70 ft-lbs). Around 55 ft/lbs.

Is it possible to use the stabilizer's included mounting bolts?

Only a new tapered bolt was included with my stabilizer, so I had to re-install it. The non-tapered bolt (passenger wheel side) should be used. That said, it worked fine; however, my kit did not include any installation instructions, and neither does the Skyjacker website. Installation, on the other hand, is fairly self-explanatory.

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that is completely stock and has never been lifted. Is this going to fit in my Jeep?

Yes, it'll work. In comparison to the stock stabilizer, gives the steering a nice stiff feel.

The Skyjacker brand is no longer what it once was
3/5

This brand, in my opinion, has deteriorated. br>br>I'll add my two cents to the others. It's lazy and smells like cutting corners when there's no diagram or inventory. The bushings not being pressed into the ends prior to manufacture is also a problem; given that these are made in Mexico, how much would it cost to have the bushings pressed in? It couldn't possibly take more than 30 seconds per unit to complete. They appear to have overlooked the fact that the majority of their clients are do-it-yourselfers. br>br>Perhaps the overall quality has gone downhill, since the better reviews appear to be from a few years ago. br>br>Perhaps the overall quality has gone downhill, since the better reviews appear to be from a few years ago. I was using a light dead blow hammer and the hardware was shoddy; the sleeve was so malleable that it began to split when I drove into the fixed end bushing! One of the spindle nuts became stuck, and I had to use a wrench to free up the threads a little. Worst of all was the cylinder's weld. There were a few sharp barbs that got me a few times, the most recent of which ripped a hole in the palm of my glove during installation. Those who believe the fixed end bushing/sleeve is excessively large should read on. The previous unit's installer most likely overtightened the bracket, squeezing it shut. It's possible that this, combined with some corrosion, is what's causing it to be so tight. It's fine if you slam that bracket open a little. I did that, then used an extra long bolt to get one side in and pry it in alignment with the bolt. There is no need to shave the bushing.

I worked for the Jeep Cherokee XJ in 1996
4/5

This is definitely a two-beer job! There's a little cursing here and there, but it's not too bad. It appears to be interesting. But, so far, everything has gone swimmingly. If you're looking to fix death wobble or sloppy steering, this isn't the product for you. However, if you want to help provide better steering support, this will do the trick.

Better steering in the 2004 Jeep Wrangler Sport It's a more usable drive, and it's relatively simple to set up

It was well worth my time.

Buy it
4/5

Replaced the upgraded stabilizer that came with my lift kit (installed 2009) that was all rusted out on my '97 Wrangler (4" suspension lift and 31's). The fact that I had to reuse the bolt, washers, and nut that were used to secure it to the track bar bracket kept me from giving it five stars. It did, however, come with all of the necessary hardware and urathane bushings for mounting it to the drag link. I also dealt with ShyJacker support for a couple of other issues and was pleased with all of my interactions with them.

The stabilizer is excellent, but the kit has a fitment problem
3/5

It's a fantastic stabilizer, but the tapered stud that came with the kit was too big for my 2000 TJ SE. To finish the installation, I needed to get a different bolt.

DOESN'T FIT AS DESCRIBED IN THE ADVERTISEMENT
3/5

This steering stabilizer is not compatible with your vehicle. On the shock side, the rubber bushings are far too large for the mounting bracket. Even if you force it, it will not fit. I'm coming back.

Make sure you have a tourch on hand
5/5

It's not the simplest part to put together. The issue isn't with the new part; it's with removing the old, rusted one. We had to heat the pin end before we could sledge it out by hand.
