The wander was cured by BD Diesel. At 60 mph on a two-lane crowned highway with numerous small corrections required to keep the truck in its lane, my 1999 Ram 2500 4x4 Cummins steering required constant attention. The front end appeared to be tight, so this stabilizer bar was a logical choice. Installation went smoothly, with the exception of having to loosen the steering stabilizer bar and force it back to bring the bearing retainer into position. Getting the heavy components into place would be a lot easier with two men. The directions are clear and concise. I took a 100 mile drive a couple of days ago and the steering has improved to the point where I can relax with 75% fewer corrections than before. and they were minor ones at that. I read a lot of reviews before deciding on the BD Diesel unit, and it was well worth the money and effort. It's clear that the design and manufacturing are of high quality. The top-notch instructions with photos of installation steps were exactly what I needed. Due to the weight of the diesel, I keep all four tires at 80 psi. Wandering was even worse at 60 psi. In terms of vehicle ride, there isn't much of a difference.
There is room for improvement in terms of clearance. It's a fantastic set that fits perfectly. My application is for a 2nd generation Cummins Ram 2500 4x4 with stock height. To line all the holes up and start the bolts by hand, I used a floor jack and footlong 2x4 to push the stock sway bar back into place, and a ratchet strap to pull the sway bar into place. br>br>If working alone, I found the best sequence is to remove all 4 sway bar frame mounting bolts, and support the sway bar with a floor jack and 2x4. If your bushings have been destroyed, now is the time to change them out. The pitman arm nut must then be removed. br>br> Raise the jack to pinch the bare steering bracket under the sway bar mounts, and slide it into place. After that, pull the bar into place with the ratchet strap. br>br>After that, replace the nut on the steering box that came with the kit. To tighten the nut, you'll need a very deep 1 1/4" socket or a crescent wrench that fits between the box and plate. The carrier bearing should then be installed and bolted in place. lubricate the set screws and tighten them. br>br>While the cross member aids in tying the front of the frame together, it hangs lower than the factory front clip. It won't be a problem because it'll almost certainly end up as part of a low-profile skid plate.
Spend the money on this one first; the precision machine work, high-grade bolts, and other features will give you peace of mind. br>First, I bought the "Made in Cheaper," and the machine work was extremely dangerous. (I made a video review)br>The risk of losing steering because your pitman arm falls off due to poor machine work is not worth it. br>If you installed the less expensive model and discovered that the threads on the steering box nut were loose and suspect. To ensure your safety, remove it.
The steering is a lot better than it used to be. My 2002 24v 2nd gen car was able to use it. Weather-resistant bar of good quality.
My truck is a Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel 4x4 from the year 2000. The truck wanders, as most trucks do when driving on the road, especially on the highway. This was supposed to fix the problem, right? About 75 percent of the time, this stabilizer bar helped to correct the problem. 80%. The truck still wanders a little, but it's a lot better than it was before; I had hoped it would have completely resolved the problem. Overall, this is a very nice product that is well made and includes grade 8 bolts, which is a huge plus. The bolt sizes and torque specs are even included in the instructions! I'm pleased with the stabilizer's performance, both in terms of bracing the frame in corners (with the heavier front bumper) and in terms of reducing steering play. br>br>Go ahead and purchase a less expensive one. The paint job was nice, but the bolts weren't grade 8, so why did I spend so much money on a brand name one?.
This is exactly what I've been looking for for my truck. It eliminates the steering wandering that my truck has and stiffens up the front end to prevent it.
