I used to have the same hellwig springs, but I switched to airbags fifteen years ago. That was a huge oversight. I recently installed new springs and tested the same pickup, a 1977 Chevy K20, with the same slide-in camper and shocks, on the same road. The springs do not launch the camper side to side as it sways like the airbags do. So happy, and the ride was nice and smooth, with no serious bobbing. It took airbags and a new set of Hellwig LP 35s for me to realize that springs are superior.
These were installed recently, and they immediately improved the performance of my tired 2003 Ford E350 with 291k miles. The next day, I put 1500 pounds in it, and she couldn't even squat. It's fantastic, and I'd strongly suggest it.
I put it on my e150 and it now feels like a 350. My only wish is that they sold the U bolts and nuts together.
These springs are ideal for replacing worn factory springs and are adjustable for a comfortable ride, which is why I purchased them. They kept my factory soft ride and only use it when the truck is overloaded.
SPRINGS AND 4 BOLTS ARE ALL THAT IS REQUIRED. I bought the same kit from Helwig years ago, and it came with everything I needed to complete the installation. Everything in blue should have come as part of the kit. Instead, I'm forced to read the fine print twice, which is a poor business strategy; you shouldn't have to deceive your customers in order to sell your high-end product. I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM HELWIG AGAIN BECAUSE OF THESE EXTREMELY HIGH PRICES.
I used to have to haul half a ton of gravel to bottom out my springs, but now I can haul a ton before they bottom out, so I gained about 1000 pounds. However, it greatly improved the truck's ride quality, resulting in less lean when entering corners. When I tightened them all the way down, I probably raised my truck 1 1/2 inch in the back.
I raised my tired old motor home 2" and leveled it nicely.
The Helper springs were simple to set up and functioned exactly as they should. Our service truck is now much smoother to ride in and handle.
