Questions & Answers

Is it compatible with the 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport?

Yes, from 1997 to the present 2006

Is a 4x4 shift linkage adapter included in this kit?

A bracket to compensate for the 1" body lift is included in the kit. A gold-colored, flat, square plate with five holes is shown in the kit's picture.

Is it necessary for me to keep the original mount retainers?

In terms of your application, Daystar's instructions are very clear. New hardware has been installed.

Is it also possible to remove the body mounts?

The body mounts that come with the kit are replaced by the kit. You'll need to use your existing sleeves (which will most likely be too rusted to use, so either make new ones or spend a ridiculous amount of money on new ones). If you don't use a 1" steering column drop bracket, your steering will bind due to the awkward angle your column is at.

Great kit, but replace the washers with grade 8 if you don't want to use the washers
4/5

I bought a 97 TJ that needed some work about two months ago. The previous owner had installed a 3" RC suspension lift as well as a 3" RC body lift, as well as anything over 1. Because a 5" tire on a Jeep Wrangler is dangerous, I had to replace it. I needed a 1" because I'm having a Tummy Tuck and 1" lift MMs done at the same time, and these came highly recommended. br>As others have stated, the kit is excellent, but the washers are garbage. I wanted to make sure before getting a Grade 8 replacement, so check out the photo of how bad the washer cupped in. I hadn't even torqued it down to 35 ft lbs yet, so it was probably 15-ft lbs. Kit appears to be great aside from that. I haven't driven it yet, but it was simple to set up.

Expect some changes (not to the kit) if you want to do a body lift
5/5

Everything went extremely smoothly. Two of the holes in the jeep frame (where the body mounts go) had to be slightly enlarged, but none of the other nine needed to be. Because it was just barely too small, I used a dremel, but a file or even sandpaper might have sufficed. Everything in the kit appears to be of high quality. I also had no trouble installing the transfer case linkage adapter. The most aggravating part was having to trim my radiator shroud because the bottom hoses wouldn't let me adjust it to avoid hitting the fan. Removing the shroud was the simplest way to accomplish this. As a result, in order to remove the shroud, I had to remove the radiator fan. I had to "borrow" an autoparts store fan removal wrench. It was simple to trim the radiator fan shroud once this was removed. The other annoyance was that my gas filler tube no longer reached the filler housing. 5 inches. I needed to loosen the hose so I could pull the filler neck out further, but my hose was old and stuck in place. I recently purchased a replacement hose and replaced the old one. br>br>Oh, and if your rocker guards/panels use the old body mounts (which had to be trimmed), you'll have to trim your new body mounts in the same spot. It was no problem at all; I simply cut the poly bushings down 3/16" with a good kitchen knife. br>br>So, in terms of the kit, it was fantastic. The real pain came from the other things that needed to be adjusted or changed. It wasn't the fault of the kit; it did exactly what it was supposed to do, and the instructions warned of the other issues; I guess that's what happens when you install a body lift. br>br>Now everything is fine; I'm wearing 31's without rubbing. It looks fantastic. This kit is far superior to those that simply add pucks for a 1" body lift. You can't go wrong with new bolts and mounts.

I installed this on a 2004 Rubicon as part of a tummy tuck skid plate installation
5/5

I was able to get in without difficulty, so just follow the directions. Follow the fuel filler tube on one side at a time. On YouTube, a video shows how to access the rad by pulling the headlight. I used long reach pliers to install the support bumper. After a few drives, check the bolt tension again. Mine did loosen a little during the season, but I checked them four more times and they were still fine.

This Budget Body Lift has a very rough ride
3/5

It was relatively simple to install the lift kit. However, I am not a fan of using the old mount's "cup inserts" with the new mounts. If you need to replace your rusted inserts, look into a different kit like Crown Automotive's 55176180MK Body Mount Master Kit (see insert pic). The polyurethane mounts from Daystar produce a very rough, bone-like surface. There are no longer any cushy soft rubber factory mounts to absorb the road vibrations, which makes for a jarring ride. br>This is still a good deal for the money.

Box with the wrong name on it! It's a YJ kit, to be precise
3/5

After removing the stock bushings, I discovered! AAARGH. UPDATE: Customer service at Amazon was quick to rectify the situation. Even after a brief explanation via "chat," customer service emailed a return label. I don't believe this is a Daystar issue, but rather a reseller's error in labeling. Once the correct kit arrives this week, I'll most likely delete this review.
- I discovered the daystar box was mislabeled after dropping the radiator shroud, transmission linkage, and pulling stock body bolts! I'm using the YJ version instead of Kj04508Bk. You can see the reseller label over the Daystar YJ label in the attached photo if you look closely. It's extremely aggravating. Because the order was placed over three months ago, this will be an Amazon customer service test (which I am confident they will pass). br>br>Now I'm trying to decide whether I should put everything back together or wait for the correct kit.

It's a little trickier than it appears
5/5

The installation was simple thanks to YouTube videos. The issue (which was not caused by the kit) was with adjusting the 4WD selector shift plate. When I went for a test drive, the 4wd kept popping off. But everything is fine now that I've made the necessary adjustments. The Radiator Fan Shroud did need to be trimmed. However, there has been a significant increase in the height of the body. This kit, according to my friend, included all of the required components. Thank you very much! Dylan.

Inadequate instructions necessitated a few changes
3/5

The instructions were poorly written. I would still be working on the project if it weren't for other people posting videos of their installations on the internet; the instructions were not clear, and some guesswork was required. Some of the components had to be altered, including: Radiator bump stops (excess rubber had to be shaved off), washers that had to be drilled out to fit the supplied bolts, and filing down two of the spacers so they would fit into the frame hole The lift kit performed as advertised once everything was installed and the job was finished. When it came to measuring the actual lift, it came up just short of a 1. Instead of a one, you'll get a 25. ".

You can get a little more than a basic body lift for a little bit more than a basic body lift
5/5

You get complete replacement for a little bit more than a basic body lift. There are a couple of issues with which I disagree. To begin, you must either re-enter your information or re-enter your information. Use the metal cups that come with your stock bushings or don't use them at all. If yours is rusted, this is something to think about. Second, they should use thicker washers, as others have suggested, because theirs have deformed. It appears to give a more solid feel, so it is still well worth it.
