Questions & Answers

Is there a means of obtaining air?

No, you'll need to bring your own air.

I have a two-inch lift and am wondering if these bags will work with it (the lift has longer coils rather than a block). ?

Along with the air bag and a piece of the original bumper/stop, the kit includes a round rubber bumper that fits inside the coil spring. The installation instructions state that you must cut off the small end of the factory tapered style bumper/stop, depending on which factory rubber bumper is inside your springs. If yours isn't tapered, you may not need to cut it; alternatively, if you can find a 2 inch thick full diameter bumper, like the one in the kit, it will be more stable and should work fine.

Has anyone tried this on a 4Runner with two wheels? It appears to be compatible with both of them. ?

I can't think of any reason why this wouldn't work. Both 2wd and 4wd 4Runners should have the same rear suspension.

Will this fit my 4Runner with a three-inch lift?

There are spacers included that should work and fit inside the springs.

br>Level of expertise - I installed it according to the instructions provided by a former ASE Certified mechanic. br>br> I tested them at 5 psi to see if they could hold air, and they did. We've gone camping twice now, and one of the bags has a hole in it and won't hold air after only a month of use. br>br>*EDIT 1
I'm curious as to "why" the bag won't hold air, so I'll be removing the bad one and reporting back with my findings - even if it's a result of something I did during the installation I'm wondering if one of the lines had a leak (at a connection point or at the plastic tee), causing it to operate at less than the 5psi minimum recommended pressure. it will be continued br>br>*EDIT2* (Saturday)br>All right, here's the deal: I dug around in the system and came up with this: br>We tested the system to see where it was leaking and narrowed it down to the passenger side, where we discovered a hole in the hose about six inches from where it connected to the bag after jacking the vehicle up and pulling the spring/air bag. It appears to have been pinched in some way, but I have no idea how or by what. My current theory is that as the bags "break in" and are driven on, the volume of the system increases as the bags stretch, resulting in a decrease in air pressure. I believe the bag/hose shifted into a position where the hose could be pinched because of the reduced pressure in the system, combined with our camping gear and some off-road driving (perhaps the hose was a little longer than it needed to be). Dang it! CHECK THE PRESSURE IN THE SYSTEM - For the first week, EVERY DAY, and for the first month, EVERY WEEK. Also, as your weight load rises or falls, adjust the pressure in the system. We went camping after replacing the hose and airing up the system. br>br>*EDIT3* (Sunday, yes, the following day)br>We awoke with flat air bags. So, there's a second, slower leak. We charged the system and drove home (which took about an hour). The bags were flat again when we arrived home. More testing, the same procedure as yesterday, and the same outcome - There is a leak on the passenger side. We pulled the spring/bag once more, this time inflating it and dumping it into a bucket of water. Yes, it has a hole in it (as shown in the photo). I'm not sure if this happened before the system lost pressure, or if it was the cause of the system's initial loss of air pressure; I'm also not sure what caused the hole in the first place - It appears to be a puncture rather than a pinch, so it's possible that a rock or stick was thrown in there, but who knows. I ordered a second set of bags so that I could replace the damaged parts as soon as they were discovered, and I installed a new bag. I'll be keeping a close eye on the system because it's retaining air. There will be more updates in the future. br>br>For the time being, I've changed my rating from one to four stars because the problem I'm having does not appear to be a product defect; as I use the vehicle, I'll update this review and add/remove stars as needed. I'll say that now that I've driven my vehicle fully loaded with the Air Lift system properly inflated, I really like the ride. I'm not bouncing off the bump stops anymore! I would recommend the Air Lift 60743 1000 series system because it performs as advertised.

It's simple to put together and lasts for a long time
5/5

I live in a 2002 Toyota 4Runner that I heavily offroad wherever I go. I put these airbags in 14 months ago to eliminate sag and improve handling, and I'm very pleased with how well they've worked! br>It's nice to be able to quickly change the pressure based on load because I sometimes travel with my trailer, other times just my 4Runner and dirtbike, and sometimes I even leave the dirtbike behind. br>A standard cross-country load for me is 1,500 pounds of gear, which puts the 4Runner at around 5,500 pounds. Even under this heavy load, the suspension has no visible sag once the bags are inflated. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> Two years have passed. They've been working flawlessly for five years!.

It's as if the suspension has been replaced! IF YOU THINK JUST GETTING NEW REAR SPRINGS IS THE BEST OPTION, READ THE LAST OARAGRAPH
4/5

br>br>I'm very happy with the Air Lift bags. I would have given these 5 stars if they hadn't sent a plastic tee instead of a real one. I despise plastic, but despite visiting five hardware and automotive stores, I was unable to locate a brass tee in time to complete the installation. The second hose would not go past the second barb when I tried to attach it to the tee. I tried soaping it and every other trick I could think of, but it just wouldn't stick. Because the plastic tee was beginning to flex (which would not have happened if it had been made of brass), I decided to go with two fill connections instead of three. br>br>An advantage of separating fill lines is that: You may or may not be aware, but the driver's side of a 3rd generation 4Runner always sits a little lower than the passenger's side; with separate fill lines, you can get it to sit dead level; with one fill line, the driver's side will sit a little lower (like 1/4-inch lower). I suppose it's not a big deal if it's only 1/2 inch). When unloaded, I ride with 20psi in the passenger side and 22psi in the driver's side because I prefer my car to sit level. br>br>I couldn't be more pleased with the way my 4Runner now handles! It floats along instead of thudding over even the tiniest bump in the road. It's as if I've been given a new suspension! br>br>In 2015, I replaced the rear springs and shocks with brand new OEM parts in the hopes of eliminating the sag. It only lasted (I kid you not) two days before it was back to its original sagged height. (I know because I measured it before and after the installation. ) I thought I'd have to get a lift to get good springs that wouldn't sag, but these air bags saved me from that. They were reasonably priced, relatively simple to install, and my 4Runner now rides like a dream! I'll update this review in a year or two after seeing how long they last and other factors.

It gives me the support I need to hitch my motorcycle
5/5

When hauling my dirtbike around on the hitch (wr450f 275lbs 50lb rack), I installed these on my 97 4runner inside my OME springs and it made a noticeable difference. br>br>I put it through its paces by going offroading with the bike on the back, which kept the back end from sagging and gave me plenty of control on windy roads. It was much easier to remove the springs rather than try to sneak it through the coils, which made installation relatively simple. It's simple to inflate and deflate. I didn't have any leaks, but one of the hoses did pop off when I rolled over a large rock and the quick drop pulled the hose off the nipple; this could have been my fault with how I installed it, but I quickly reinstalled it on one side and it hasn't come off since. Since then, I've driven over 2000 miles without a hitch.

The 3rd generation 4runner will love it
5/5

For a third-generation 4runner, this is ideal. I was able to install the springs without having to remove the tires because I simply jacked up the frame. After cutting the bumpstops off one section at a time, I folded the bags and slipped them through the springs, routing individual lines for each side to balance the load when I overland. It took about an hour to install.
