Questions & Answers
It all depends on the engine and distributor you have. I have a 1966 Mercury 390FE big block engine in my 1965 Ford F100, and I have the ignitor III with the matching coil, and it runs flawlessly.
It should fit and work as long as it is from the original distributor. Quite a leap forward in terms of points. I've completed the conversion on three 64 Galaxies, which are set up similarly to a T-bird.
It fit my 1965 Falcon 289 perfectly; I had to bypass the factory coil resistance wire to ensure it was getting a full 12 volts, but other than that, it was a cinch to install and perform as expected.

Installed in a 1973 Ford F-250 with a 360-degree engine. I was able to get in right away and had no issues. I also installed the recommended Pertronix cap, new wires, and new champion plugs, which resulted in a significant improvement in driveability over the previous point setup. Idle is more pleasant, acceleration is more pleasant, and shifting is more pleasant. It now appears to be a more recent truck.
You must supply 12 volts to the coil and use the flamethrower iii coil (the one with the blue flame). The only issue I had was that the E clip that connects to the vacuum advance was too large, so I had to go out and purchase a smaller one. My 67 f250 390 is now running like a champ.
I thought I had burned up my original ignition switch by leaving it on the ON position overnight, so I bought this to replace it. The Ignitor did not appear to be the issue, as the original lasted all night. Pertronix appears to have resolved the problem of them failing due to the ignition being left on? However, it turned out that my coil had been burned.
The engine is easier to start, runs more smoothly, and performs better. That's what the point system did. At the same time, I installed the Flamethrower III coil, which I would recommend to anyone who uses a point-based system. I even get better gas mileage than I used to in town. I haven't had it on the highway yet, but based on what I've seen in city driving, I'm confident I'll see at least that increase.
Ms. American 3 has a PerTronix Igniter III installed. 14159, the ONE and ONLY 1964 Ford Galaxie 500, four-door sedan Google finds Door, Hard-Top, Fast-Back, and Police Interceptor on the entire World Wide Web. The PerTronix is a great product that should last a long time, and it was easy to set up. A PerTronix Power Relay and a 60,000 Volt PerTronix HC Flamethrower Ignition Coil were also installed. It's a hit with Ms. American.
This is something I should've done years ago! My 69 Ford runs so much better now than it did before I switched to the new points system. br>Easy to install; just make sure the ignition coil is receiving 12 volts. A resistance wire from the ignition is found on some older Fords. You're good to go if you bypass that!.
It exceeded rather than met my expectations. I used the matching coil and recommended type of plug wires to bring an old Y block Ford back to life.
The item works well, was simple to install, and I appreciate the ability to adjust the RPM limit. br>br>It appears to be well-built, and it has performed admirably in both cold and hot environments thus far. The only disadvantage is the cost, as these are not free. Overall, this was a great purchase that was far superior to points!.
