Questions & Answers

Will this fit a 1981 Chevrolet K10 short-wheelbase pickup?

Yes. To read the rpms, simply connect it to the ignition system or coil.

Is it possible to use it with a two-cylinder engine?

The answer can be found on Summit Racing's website, and this tach will work on engines with 2, 4, 6, and 8 cylinders. Under the back cover, there is a switch that must be set to two cylinders.

Is it possible to attach this to the steering wheel?

The steering column has a big impact on this. With a little tinkering, it can be easily mounted to older steering columns.

It worked for about a week before going insane
3/5

It's no longer alive. The shift light is now on all of the time, and the tach needle is no longer stable. The shift light has begun to flicker intermittently above 2K RPM. I gave the machine a good work out and the shift light stopped flickering, but the needle still bounces around the indicated RPM. After two weeks, the tachometer went crazy, indicating that my RPMs had surpassed 10,000. I had to avoid looking at a bright blue light at eye level during the pre-dawn darkness because the shift light came on continuously on my way to work. For a second chance, I'm going to try a black-faced version. Something has come loose inside the tach casing and is rattling around. br> The mounting hardware is metric soft stuff that is extremely inexpensive. This wasn't my first choice for a large tach because of the shiny chrome retro look, but finding one that will switch to a 2 cylinder engine at this low price induced me to install it. I purchased a Universal Adjustable 7 Color LED 11K RPM Tachometer Gauge with Shift Lighting from Amazon, but it was incompatible with my ignition system.
BTW: Derek's Auto is providing me with a free replacement. Pros: Excellent customer service!br>Cons: br>Good solid mounting basebr>Easy to set shift pointsbr>Easy to readbr>Metal housingbr>Metal clamp ringbr>Metal basebr>16 gauge wires and plenty of lengthbr>Good English instructionsbr>Allen wrench, mounting screws, rubber isolator, wire taps includedbr> br>Chromed plastic bezelbr>Slow needle responsebr>Plastic set buttons that rattle in the plastic black housingbr>Chromed plastic shift light housingbr>Incandescent back light and shift light bulbsbr>Allen screws were soft junk and easily stripped. The lock washers are a slap in the face. Internals came apart after 2 weeks and are rattling around inside. br>No shrink wrap or insulated sleeve includedbr>Unstable needle after a weekbr>Shift light flickers well below the setpointbr>Internals came apart after 2 weeks and are rattling around inside.

I'd buy it again if I had the opportunity
5/5

It's pretty big, and it's no one's fault but mine because I anticipated how big it would be. However, I'm having trouble getting it to appear in the steering column. br>.

Dragsters are highly recommended because they perform exceptionally well
5/5

Other rpm gauges are more expensive than this one. It's great, just a little bigger than I expected, but other than that, it's fantastic. I would tell my friends and other drag racers about it. It performs as well as the more expensive models, and the shift rpm can be adjusted. It just has a few minor hiccups now and then.

It's a nice TACH that's simple to set up and use, and it works well
5/5

It's a nice TACH that's simple to set up and use, and it works well. It reads the same RPMs as my Autometer, and it also gives me a nostalgic look!.

Excellent craftsmanship
5/5

Tach is awesome. The point at which the shift occurs can be adjusted. That's what I'm saying because it wasn't stated in the description.

Junk
3/5

This is mounted on the cowl of a 1928 Roadster Pickup and requires dismantling half the dash to access. It worked great for a few weeks, then RPMs doubled on occasion, then all of the time. I'm going to throw it away and go to an Auto Parts store to get a more expensive brand.
